MJF remains the AEW World Champion following his match with Mark Briscoe on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, and potentially has a major title match set for next week. Wednesday night’s episode saw MJF put his title on the line against Briscoe, a consquence of Team Briscoe’s win over Team MJF in Death’s Door at Saturday’s AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.

Briscoe got busted open during the match as MJF reopened the laceration he suffered at Forbidden Door. Briscoe kept battling through, taking advantage of MJF showboating to take the advantage. MJF used heel tactics including a thumb to the eye in order to battle back and while Briscoe got a nearfall with a Jay Driller, MJF ultimately got the win after a Heat Seeker in just under 18 and a half minutes.

After the match, MJF decided to add insult to injury (or rather, further injury to injury) as he put on the Dynamite Diamond Ring and laid in a shot to the dome of the challenger. He went for another but Kenny Omega ran down to the ring and the champion bailed. Omega called out MJF and suggested another title match for tonight but MJF said no. Instead, he proposed a match for Beach Break for next week with the same stipulation as when Hangman Page faced MJF — namely, if Omega loses, he can never have another World Title shot again. MJF said he wanted an answer tonight.

You can see highlights from the match below. MJF’s title reign, his third, now stands at 38 days. He defeated Darby Allin to regain the championship at AEW Double or Nothing on May 24th in a title vs. hair match.
