As previously reported, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio, and his son Dominik Mysterio, recently signed new contracts with WWE, renewing their stays. Dave Meltzer provided more details on their WWE contract renewals on today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, along with WWE reportedly trying to secure other talents to new long-term deals.

While the length of their new contract deals are unknown, according to Meltzer, the contracts renewals are said to be “long-term” deals. Meltzer said he was also told by a source that Rey Mysterio’s new contract “could be” for the length of five years. Rey just turned 49 years old last week, meaning his new contract, if it’s five years in length, would keep him under contract well into his 50s.

This is a contrast to WWE’s past views on signing wrestlers to long-term contracts and not being quite as “bullish” about keeping Rey Mysterio. When he previously returned to the company in 2018, it was said to have been a “short-term,” big money deal.

Additionally, Melter reported that WWE is going to pursue “long-time deals with greatly increased compensation” for their top talents. That reason being is because WWE reportedly does not want their top talents becoming free agents right now.

As previously noted, some top Superstars who have their contracts expiring next year include Becky Lynch and Drew McIntyre. It’s rumored that Lynch’s current deal expires in 2024. Meanwhile, McIntyre’s contract is believed to expire early next year.
