More Details On Luke Harper Asking For WWE Release: Possible Reason For Making It Public, Where He Is Likely To Go
As we reported yesterday, Luke Harper asked for his release from WWE after working there for six years, with a public announcement about it on Twitter. He noted that he felt it “felt right” so that he could grow as a performer.
In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer had some details on Harper’s possible exit. He noted that Harper’s contract with WWE is up in November (or close to it), so he would have to wait several months if WWE chooses not to grant the release. He added that WWE could freeze his contract for six months after that to make up for the time he missed due to injury, but that is unlikely.
As far as why Harper went public with his request, Meltzer noted that others who have done so in the past, such as Cody, Jack Swagger and Tye Dillinger, were all granted their release. He speculated that perhaps Harper did so as a means to immediately get out of his contract without being turned down or worrying about WWE trying to convince him to stay.
Finally, Meltzer suggested that AEW could be a likely destination for Harper because Harper is close friends with AEW’s Vice President of Business Strategy Chris Harrington.
