Nathan Frazer came out to answer Ilja Dragunov’s open challenge for the United States Championship on this week’s episode of WWE Smackdown. Dragunov came out for his open challenge on Friday’s show. He was met with the Fraxiom member, who gave the champion a difficult challenge.
The two stars went 18 and a half minutes and went back and forth. In the end, Dragunov proved victorious. He picked up the pinfall victory with a powerbomb followed by an H-Bomb to retain the championship. After the match, an exhausted Frazer left the ring but was ambushed by Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa stared down Dragunov and pointed at him. Johnny Gargano came down as well, with Axiom getting involved. Dragunov joined in to aid Fraxiom, which led to the five men ultimately fighting their way the back.
The victory marks Dragunov’s second successful defense of the United States Championship. He won the title from Sami Zayn in his return to TV on October 17th. Last week’s show saw him retain against Aleister Black thanks to an assist from Damian Priest.
Dragunov is following in the steps of Zayn, who used his title reign to reinstitute John Cena’s weekly open challenge for the title.
