Sumie Sakai Set as First Entrant for ROH Women’s World Title Tournament
– As previously reported, Ring of Honor (ROH) is dissolving the Women of Honor Championship and re-dubbing it as the ROH Women’s World Championship. There will be a 16-woman tournament to crown a new champion later this April. Sumie Sakai, the first ROH Women of Honor champion, has been announced for the tournament.
Previously, Sumie Sakai defeated Kelly Klein in the finals of a tournament in April 2018 at Supercard of Honor XII to capture the championship. She later lost the belt to Klein in December of that same year. More recently, the title was vacated after Klein had a contract dispute with ROH.
The tournament is scheduled to feature eight first-round matches. They will be held at Quest for Gold in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 24. Tickets for the event will be going on sale on Wednesday, February 19 at 10:00 am for HonorClub Members, while they will be available to the general public on Friday, February 21 at 10:00 am.
Sumie Sakai has been announced as the first competitor in the upcoming 16-woman tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Women’s World Champion. Sakai was the first and longest-reigning holder of the old Women of Honor Title.
