On the latest episode of the What Happened When with Tony Schiavone, the AEW broadcaster discussed why he has negative feelings towards some of his most famous catchphrases from his time in WCW, such as “butts in seats” and “the greatest night in the history of our great sport.” You can check out some highlights below:
On fans using the catchphrases in a celebratory manner: “I get that, but those happened at a time in my career when things — I didn’t like what I was doing. I didn’t like wrestling. So to me, those hearken me back to those bad old days. But anyway, I do appreciate the people remembering.”
On still being known today: “I am astounded each and every time I go out to the arena, and I get the cheers that I get. I am. I’m just amazed. And there are smattering of boos in there and I get that, I understand. But mostly it’s cheers, chanting my name. They sang my name at the first show in Wembley, which blew me f**king away. So that’s never lost on me about how people have — how I’ve been welcomed back to pro wrestling after all these years –18 years away from wrestling, how about that?”
