Tyrus says he still watches some WWE and gave his thoughts on CM Punk vs. Jey Uso at tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. The WWE alum and former NWA World Champion spoke about his WWE watching on TMZ Inside the Ropes. Tyrus noted that he watches his “buddies” in WWE and weighed in on a number of the current stars in the company.

When asked about tonight’s match between Punk and Uso for the World Title, he went with Uso because he doesn’t think Punk should be winning the World Title at this point in his career. You can see highlights below:

On Whether He Watches WWE:

“I watch my buddies. Um, Tanga Loa, whenever he’s [with the] Bloodline, I’m always watching him. I like the new face paint, it’s a great look. Drew McIntyre — why he has not been champion for the last 10 years straight, I have no idea. That’s just me personally. You know, [Randy] Orton, love Orton. Uh, Cody [Rhodes], I love what Cody’s done. I still owe Cody an ass whipping, but you know, I’ll let that go.”

On Working With Cody Rhodes:

“Cody was one of the funnest guys to work with, because he had the same — him and Daniel Bryant were two of the most sarcastic s**t disturbers in the history of wrestling. I was more of, ‘make fun of the moment.’ I would pick on guys my own size. Like I liked to tease Ryback all the time, because I was a little bit stronger than him. I used to crush apples in my hand and it would blow his mind. He was a fun guy. We never actually got a match together, but we’ve worked a million times down below in FCW and all that kind of stuff. But there’s certain guys that you want to see do well.”

On What He Likes In WWE:

“I really like what they’re doing with Heyman and bringing the young guys in. I think they found their next star if he can stay healthy. Breaker, I think, is the guy. But you know what? {Jey] Uso, Yeet. I mean, my son’s baseball team is Team Yeet, you know?”

On the Notion that Jey Uso Doesn’t Need the World Title:

“I disagree. Just like Steamboat, and I look at him — I would always say Kofi was our generation’s Ricky Steamboat. But then he turned heel.. But I think with Uso, he should have that title. And the more you hate it, the better it is for business.”

On Not Wanting Punk to Win the Title:

“I think Punk is at a point in his career where titles really shouldn’t be on the radar. Really, he should be getting the Breakers ready. He should be getting the young guys ready. I think there’s a point — again, nothing against Phil. I love Phil. He gave me a match, a title match on Monday Night Raw at the time when none of the other top guys would. So I’m always thankful, he’s always a good dude.

“But I also think there comes a point when it’s the other guy’s time. And who better to get somebody over than [Punk]? Look what Jericho was doing in AEW. How many guys did he make over there? So I think there comes a point where it’s not about the titles. I think when you get — and again, you can wrestle to your whenever. But I also think there comes a point where it it is a sport. And we need to respect the sports psychology. And when you got a 25 year-old jacked young guy and you got a 40-plus something [guy].

On Not Liking the Era of Exceptionally Long Title Reigns:

“I think the Ric Flair era and the Hogan era of holding on to titles was never good for the business. It hurt guys’ growth… I just think like there comes a point where the the legends need to help build new legends. And the only way you do that is by having great feuds and putting the young guys over. You have to, because you want to build it for the next generation.

“The guys hold the belt for too long. Then eventually the crowd, the numbers aren’t the same because they’re like, no one believes it. They just don’t believe it.”
