Dave Meltzer recently commented on the possibility of AEW stars competing in this year’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s G1 Climax tournament.
G1 Climax 36 is set to begin on July 11, 2026, with the NOW Arena in Chicago, Illinois, being the stage for the opening night. In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio (WOR) [via WrestlingNews.co] , Dave Meltzer said that there are ongoing discussions around “a couple of” AEW stars competing in NJPW’s prestigious tournament.
Meltzer said that Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, and Bryan Danielson have already filmed advertisements for the opening night of this year’s tournament. Omega won the tournament in 2016 and was the runner-up the following year. Meanwhile, Ospreay finished as a runner-up in 2022. That said, Meltzer didn’t specifically confirm that these three will compete in the tournament.
Notably, last year, AEW’s Konosuke Takeshita won the G1 Climax tournament by beating EVIL in the final. It will be interesting to see which AEW wrestlers will compete in NJPW’s premier tournament this time around.
