It was reported earlier today that independent wrestling game The Wrestling Code’s trademark was abandoned, but a new report states Virtual Basement is working on getting it reinstated. As noted, the long-gestating wrestling game’s trademark was abandoned in late December of 2025. This comes five and a half years after the game was initially announced.

According to Fightful Select, sources have indicated that the trademark abandonment was an oversight due to Virtual Basement’s previous lawyer retiring. Michael Dockins is currently working with the company on getting the trademark reinstated.

According to the report, Fightful was told back in November that “a lot” was going on behind the scenes with the game, “both good and bad.” The report notes that that the game was put on hold because the primary developer and their team are contractually obligated to finish another game. They are working in a “high pressure situation” over the next 10 months to finish the other game, so it had to go on the front burner. This has been the case for several months at this point.

Virtual Basement’s creators told the site today that The Wrestling Code is still a self-funded passion project and is still being worked on, but it is “very slow and specific” work. The team hopes to have more of the game to show this year.
