Winfree’s WWE Smackdown Review 5.01.26

Hey there people, it’s the month of May and time for another episode of WWE Smackdown. Last week Smackdown kind of rebounded, at least relative to the borderline unwatchable crap they’d been putting out the prior 4 weeks, with an acceptable show. Backlash is coming up very quickly so if Smackdown wants to offer anything to that event they’ve got to get stuff into gear. To that end we actually don’t have confirmation of what WWE champion Cody Rhodes will be continuing his feud with Randy Orton, though logically that’s the choice to make. Fatal Influence showed up last week, because apparently Solo’s Mediocre Fail-Troupe, Judgement Day, a reformed Bloodline, The Baddies (Jade Cargill, B-Fab, and Michin), and arguably the Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend) weren’t enough heel groups for WWE TV, and immediately took aim at the top of the division. Tonight Jacy Jane takes on Charlotte Flair to further that whole thing, while Jade Cargill’s future remains a little uncertain. Tiffany Stratton won the women’s US title last week, and now will have to try and turn that particular albatross around her waist into something worthwhile. Sami Zayn and Trick Williams are still beefing, Danhausen is still generally amusing, Ricky Saints will make his Smackdown debut and Blake Monroe should be here in the near future. No real direction for Damian Priest and R-Truth, Jacob Fatu is probably a RAW guy now, Carmelo Hayes and Ilja Dragunov desperately need direction despite being the best part of Smackdown for weeks on end. It’s also worth noting that Smackdown will go back to being 2 hours in July, apparently their contract with USA is for half the year 3 hours and half the year 2 hours. Anyway like I said, Backlash is next week is if anything from Smackdown is going to on that show they need to kick things into gear tonight.

We get a recap of the Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns stuff from Monday when Fatu laid out Roman with the Tongan Death Grip and Roman accepted the challenge from Fatu.

Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett welcome us to Oklahoma as we see wrestlers arrive at the venue. Brie Bella and Paige will defend their titles against the Irresistible Forces.

Opening the show proper we’ve got WWE champion Cody Rhodes. Cody’s still sporting a bit of a shiner as he heads to the ring and gets a mic. Very positive response to Cody as he asks Tulsa what they want to talk about. It’s always nice to provide new information for the fans and Cody has some, he talked with the medical staff and Smackdown GM Nick Aldis to find out his status, the crowd give a “yes” chant and he gives them the good news that he’s cleared for action. Naturally that means he needs to figure out who’s next for him on Smackdown. That brings out Ricky Saints, which is pretty interesting given the history Cody and the former Ricky Starks have. Only a mild reaction for Saints though as he gets a mic. Saints tells the fans they boo what they don’t understand then he introduces himself for those of us unfamiliar with him. He brings up that he and Cody aren’t strangers to each other, but Cody can feel the revolution and there’s only one man leading the revolution. He’s the man and welcomes us to Friday Night Saints. Cody lets the crowd chant his name for a bit before telling Saints that he’s glad to have him on Friday’s. Then he asks what the difference is between now and the last time Saints stepped to him. Saints says Cody is different, a man with staples in his head and a busted eye, those three title reigns have aged Cody 30 years. Saints runs down his resume and says he’s been in the background for too long and he’s here to relieve Cody of his duties. Cody says it’s an easy thread to pull, he said he was cleared for action, Saints looks down for action, so tonight we’ve got Cody vs. Saints. Saints starts to leave but stops, and says he’s not here to make a statement, he’s here to change who the show’s about. Cody just reminds him that he’s easy to find but hard to beat. Saints and Cody should be solid enough for our presumptive main event.

Next a recap of Fatal Influence’s stuff from last week.

In the back Cathy talks with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss, Charlotte gets interrupted by Rhea Ripley coming over. Ripley warns them about taking on Fatal Influence alone, but she’s willing to put differences aside with Charlotte. Bliss says that’s nice but Charlotte still declines. Charlotte’s apparently quite jealous of Bliss maybe having a friend other than her I guess. Charlotte heads to the ring and we head to break.

We come back to confirmation of Cody vs. Ricky later tonight.

Jacy Jane then heads to the ring with Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. Jane talks to the ring, not nearly the same heat as last week so they adjust the levels on the audio mix to make up for it. Jane does the usual cheap heat bit then promises to embarrass a legend tonight.

Match #1: Charlotte Flair w/ Alexa Bliss vs. Jacy Jane w/ Fallen Henley and Lainey Reid

They look around then tie up. Charlotte corners Jane but gives the condescending clean break. Knee from Jane but Charlotte just chops away at her then grabs a side headlock and hits a shoulder block. Jane attacks Charlotte from the back then we get some corner work. Slow hurricanrana from Jane but Charlotte responds with a Lethal Combination into the corner. The rolling head scissors from Charlotte then a kip up and strut. Corner kick from Charlotte then she tries a Figure 8 but Jane scoots free then gets jump scared by Bliss. That sends us to break.

Jane just kind of hangs out on the floor for a bit before getting back into the ring. Kick from Charlotte but Reid trips up Charlotte so Jane can hit a superkick then catapult into the ropes. Corner cannonball senton from Jane. The worlds worst double collar tie and knees from Jane then she grabs a chin lock. Charlotte fights free then hits the ropes but runs into a back elbow. More control work from Jane then she grabs another chin lock. That’s the state of things as we rejoin the broadcast. Charlotte fights free then catches a jumping Jane with a back suplex and both women are down. Some elbows from Charlotte the chops and a walk over clothesline. Charlotte to the apron for a boot then heads up top and hits a crossbody, but Jane rolls through for a 2 count then lands another superkick only for Charlotte to respond with a boot. Now Charlotte goes up top again for the moonsault, it connects for a near fall. Jane slips away from a slam, hits a chop block then running knee for her own 2 count. Charlotte with a thrust kick to block a Rolling Encore, then a Figure 8 but Fallon yanks her free behind the refs back. Bliss, Fallon, and Reid all trade impact moves which sets up Jane hitting Charlotte with a Rolling Encore and the 3 count.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Jacy Jane won in 10:03

Rating: 2 stars
Thoughts: Beating Charlotte isn’t what it used to be, her name has more theoretical value than real value. That said Jane didn’t look out of place with this version of Charlotte.

Post match all three women beat down Charlotte and Bliss until Ripley’s music hits and Ripley runs down, superkicks Fallon then lays out Reid, Jane escapes a Riptide and shoves Ripley towards Charlotte but the two don’t actually make contact then they shake hands briefly.

In the back Paige and Brie watch TV and Byron comes over. They’re impressed a bit with Fatal Influence but what goes around comes around for them, but they’re focused on defending their titles tonight.

Earlier tonight R-Truth is talking with Fraxiom who he mistakes for Los Americanos. Damian Priest comes over to appreciate their work and defending the tag titles against them tonight. Apparently Truth wasn’t talking with them about a title shot, but rather taxes but Fraxiom are game to take the opportunity. Truth and Priest argue a bit about handing out title shots and Truth tells Priest to get his head in the game. Priest playing the straight man to Truth’s shenanigans has worked out surprisingly well in these segments. Anyway that title match is up after this break.

Post break we see Miz and Kit Wilson looking for Danhausen in the back, they’ve set up a trap for him with human monies. Danhausen shows up and sees the sign, he opens a briefcase and it’s full of cash which he pockets and walks off. There was supposed to be a trap going off. Wilson and Miz open the case and get a face full of powder. Moderately amusing bit.

Back to the ring, here come Priest and Truth followed by Fraxiom.

Match #2 – WWE Tag Team Title Match: (c) R-Truth and Damian Priest vs. Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom)

Truth and Axiom start us off, they tie up then Truth corners Axiom and grabs a side headlock then hits a shoulder block. Axiom with an arm drag off the ropes then a leaping kick. Frazer tags in and Truth puts on the brakes then tags in Priest. Priest overpowers the smaller Frazer but Frazer’s speed works well and he lands a kick then tags Axiom. Priest floors Frazer with a right hand then boxes the ears of Axiom and clubs him down. Axiom counters a Razor’s Edge with a hurricanrana then Truth shows up to get double teamed briefly. Frazer and Axiom kick Priest and Truth out of the ring, but Priest and Truth walk away from potential dives and that sends us to break.

Priest and Axiom reset things in the ring and Priest kicks him then throws him into the corner and punches him down. Truth tags in for the Lie Detector and Russian leg sweep combo move for a 2 count. Frazer tags in and he and Axiom hit a low sweep and DDT combination. That sets Frazer up for control work on Truth. Axiom tags back in and uses strikes, but Truth is bigger and stronger so the slug fest favors him until Axiom lands a dropkick. Truth fights off a headlock but Frazer blind tags and hits a kick, Axiom with a half nelson suplex then there’s a double superkick to Truth but still only a 2 count. Axiom tags back in, heads up top as we rejoin the broadcast he’s missed a leap and Truth hits a suplex Stunner to put both men down. Hot tag to Priest, Frazer tags in as well but Priest just runs wild on both men. Slightly awkward double back body drop spot but he still runs through the usual offensive spots. Axiom takes a rebound clothesline but that lets Frazer flip out of South of Heaven but Truth tags in for the Cena Moves of Doom. 5 Knuckle Shuffle from Truth, Axiom yanks Priest off the apron though and Frazer rolls up Truth for 2. Truth gets low bridged, that sets up the train of suicide dives from Frazer and Axiom, that’s always impressive from them. Back in the ring Axiom tags in, they hit the Catapulta Infernal but Priest kicks Frazer into the pin to break things up. Priest drags Truth over to make the tag and Priest then Pounce’s Axiom out of the ring then kills Frazer with South of Heaven. Razor’s Edge to Axiom, the legal man, and that’ll do it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Damian Priest and R-Truth retained the titles in 9:37

Rating: 2.5 stars
Thoughts: Interesting contrast of styles here, not in a bad way but definitely in a way that took a little time to fully gel. Fraxiom in control segments still haven’t quite figured things out, their offense is generally great but having to work control and keep a more measured pace is not their strong suit.

Post match Talla Tonga is here to make everything worse, how that big sack of nothing survived the roster cuts is beyond me. Talla lays out everyone as Solo talks him on. I was really hoping we were moving away from Solo in this role, he’s just not good at it. That sends us to break.

We come back to a recap of what just happened, because we’re just gonna keep trying to make Talla a thing despite how little it’s worked. Oh, Solo and Talla are still in the ring. Solo wants heat, doesn’t really get it. He says last week Jacob Fatu made a big mistake and we get a recap of last week when Fatu pinned Solo clean then absolutely wrecked Tama Tonga, JC Mateo, and Tonga Loa who managed to botch just laying on a table. Solo says despite Fatu taking out his army of brothers and blood, good grief that was poorly worded and delivered by Solo. Anyway he warns that Fatu is a dead man walking when he gets here tonight. Out come Jimmy and Jey Uso, because we’re just recycling 3-4 year old material at this point. Jimmy and Jey have mics and address Solo. They get it, but Solo’s not the only one with an issue with Fatu, Roman Reigns has big problems with him. Fatu’s mistake wasn’t taking out Solo’s goofs, but putting his hands on Roman on Monday. Jey brings up Fatu using the Tongan Death Grip, a move Talla’s father used. It’s a move of last resort, that means he and Roman are dangerous. Jey says Solo needs to leave Fatu alone until Roman is done with him. Solo tries to talk but Jey cuts him off, they’re not asking him they’re telling him to stand down. Solo laughs, if they just let that man be a jive turkey he’d actually be over, and he tries to leave but then tells Talla to attack. Talla with a chokeslam to Jimmy, good grief stop trying to make Talla a thing. Solo tells the Usos to tell Roman that they don’t care what he says. If Roman likes it or not, Fatu is a dead man. There was a time this segment would have worked, but as I said we’re 3-4 years past that point. Dead crowd for references to Roman, or Solo defying him. No one buys Solo in this role anymore and frankly rehashing more Bloodline stuff feels tired rather than interesting.

In the back Sami Zayn finds Cody, and Sami objects to being called sarcastic and continues to expose his massive inferiority complex as it relates to Cody. Sami says he and Cody are the last real good guys and that they’re the same. Cody says they’re not the same and walks off. After this break we’ll get Cody vs. Ricky. Dang, I thought they’d save that for later.

Post break we get news that later we’ll get Solo and Talla will take on the Usos. That is entirely too much Solo and Talla for one episode.

Back to the ring, here comes Cody for our next match.

Match #3: Cody Rhodes vs. Ricky Saints

They shake hands then Ricky grabs a side headlock and hits shoulder blocks then arm drags and poses. Knee from Cody then he tries a suplex, but Ricky slips free only to get knocked out of the ring by Cody. Cody heads out of the ring but Ricky counters and they head back into the ring where Ricky clotheslines Cody out of the ring to send us to break.

Cody gets back in the ring and they tie up again, headlock throw from Cody and he starts working a headlock on the mat. Ricky escapes then lands a back elbow. Some corner work from Ricky but Cody fights back with the drop down right hand but he can’t sustain momentum as Ricky cuts him off again. Knee drop from Ricky then he goes for a neck crank. Ricky slams Cody down by the hair, then they trade chops before Ricky lands a low kick and a sliding kick to the head then it’s back to the neck crank as we rejoin the broadcast. Cody fights free and drops Ricky with an elbow. Ricky with an elbow to the bad eye of Cody then a neckbreaker and another knee drop. Taker Old School spot from Ricky but then he taunts and turns into a snap powerslam. Cody with the Disaster Kick then a Cody Cutter. Ricky avoids a running powerslam and hits a sort of Sister Abigail for a 2 count. They trade pin attempts then Ricky with a Revolution DDT for a 2 count. Cody avoids a Roshambo and counters into a Cross Rhodes, which spikes Ricky for the win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Cody Rhodes won in 8:56

Rating: 2.5 stars
Thoughts: Solid outing from Ricky, he had control for most of the match and looked good doing so. Cody winning felt more necessary but Ricky more than held his own, to make a one to one comparison this went better for Ricky than the same position did for Carmelo Hayes a couple years back.

Post match Gunther shows up and locks Cody in a Sleeper to put him out standing. Back to the Sleeper from Gunther then he poses with the title. OK, Gunther and Cody have worked well together in the past so he’ll be a fine opponent for a bit. That sends us to break.

After the break here comes Danhausen. Danhausen has the hausen-mobile and carefully navigates driving it around the ringside area. He parks in front of commentary and he then gets into the ring with a mic. Danhausen plays with the crowd then has the money he took from Miz earlier, he bought Danhausen merch with it and throws things to the fans. Miz interrupts things, looking very stupid. Miz says bad things have been happening to him ever since Danhausen showed up and runs down all the bad things that have happened. Ultimately Miz admits he’s cursed, that gets a “yes you are” chant. Miz offers to mentor Danhausen, MizHausen might be a thing. The crowd like it, but before they can shake on it here comes Kit Wilson. Wilson tells Miz not to do it, Wilson’s being mentored not Danhausen. Miz tells Wilson to shut up, and Danhausen is the one who’s understood the Miz’s system while Wilson has floundered. Wilson again stops the handshake, he even wrote a poem for him. It’s not his best work, and now Miz has to choose who he’s going to work with. The crowd are pro Danhausen and Miz is conflicted but shakes Danhausen’s hand. Miz then says there’s only one thing left to do, and attacks Danhausen from behind before he can curse Wilson again. They stomp on Danhausen a bit then Miz finally hits the Skull Crushing Finale, and Wilson follows with Men Cry Too. Not sure this was the right move, Danhausen showing the very evil side in response to this feels too soon.

In the back Royce Keys warms up, he’ll take on Angel after this break.

We get another reminder that Blake Monroe will be coming to Smackdown soon.

Angel is already in the ring and here comes Keys.

Match #4: Royce Keys vs. Angel w/ Berto

Angel removes his pants and distracts Keys with them, Keys just launches him into a corner and Angel powders. Attempted distraction from Berto, Angel hits the ropes but runs into a Keys clothesline. Corner avalanche from Keys then he knocks Berto off the apron, catches a jumping Angel and puts him up top again before climbing up and hitting an avalanche powerslam. Good grief, Keys then murders Angel with the Ultimate Spinebuster to win.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Royce Keys won in 1:44

Rating: Winterhorn SQUASH
Thoughts: Delicious squash, exactly what it needed to be as they’re still establishing Keys.

In the back Cathy talks with Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green comes over and is mobile again as her foot his healed now. She tries to suck up to Tiffany but Tiffany doesn’t like her. Kiana James and Giulia come over and everyone bickers a bit and Tiffany offers James a US title shot next week. Green follows Tiffany, leaving Giulia and James to still have some friction.

A gingerbread man stand is brought out to the ring as we head to break.

Post break we find Keys in the back on the phone. Jacob Fatu is here and they hug, Keys and Fatu have known each other for a real long time. Keys and Fatu reminisce about their history and Keys hypes up Fatu to take on Roman. OK, that was not a pairing I’d anticipated. Talla shoves Keys through a table, then chokeslams Fatu through a table. Dear God, really with Talla still? Who thinks this is a good idea?

Back to the ring, the gingerbread costume is up and here comes Sami Zayn for talky time. Sami asks if we’re having fun. He loves Tulsa, and does the local references specifically about Bob Dylan. Dylan was a folk legend until he went electric, and the crowd turned on him. Well Sami can relate to that. He still doesn’t know what he did wrong, but it doesn’t bother him. Because he knows that Sami’s ride or die fan club is here tonight. He knows there are plenty here and millions on TV who still have his back. The reactions, he could live with, but the disrespect not so much. Someone like Trick Williams shows up and plays but is just a shell of a man. It’s easy to do what Trick does, get a great entrance, do stupid dance moves and have a chant. Sami could do that in his sleep, but what he does is a lot harder. Year after year giving yourself to the fans in this ring, that’s actually hard. So this stupid costume is just Trick not taking him seriously, or any of this seriously. He thinks about punching the dummy but stops himself because that’s just silly. He shakes the hand, then takes the dummy to dick kick city. Mounted punches from Sami, he tears the costume including the gumdrop buttons. Baked good related crash out was odd. Trick shows up and attacks Sami but Sami avoids a Trick Shot and retreats through the crowd. Trick throws up an X for the costume. OK then, that definitely killed time.

Next a recap of Brie Bella and Paige winning the women’s tag team titles at WrestleMania, in case you missed it.

In the back Byron talks with Nia Jax and Lash Legend, they bring up not getting pinned at Mania and they weren’t ready for Paige at Mania. But tonight they’re ready and will end the nostalgia BS. That match will be up after this break.

In the back Cathy talks with Trick about the dismemberment of the gingerbread man. Well nobody touches the gingerbread man, and that’s messing with his money. No one messes with Trick’s money. Sami better pray that the gingerbread man is OK, and Trick is happy to give Sami a rematch for the US title at Backlash. A “doctor” shows up to say the gingerbread man didn’t make it. So Sami, at Backlash he’s going to whoop that trick. Trick’s mood felt off if they were trying to make this comedic, I’m not sure what exactly was off but it just didn’t quite land comedically for me. That said Trick and Sami still going at it is fine.

Back to the ring, here come the champs followed by the Forces.

Match #5 – Women’s Tag Team Title Match: (c) Brie Bella and Paige vs. Irresistible Forces (Nia Jax and Lash Legend)

28 minutes between matches, not so good. Paige and Lash start, Lash tosses Paige around as the bigger and stronger woman, Paige fights back then gets distracted by Jax so Lash floors her with an elbow. Running Splash from Lash gets a 2 count. Jax tags in and headbutts Paige. Paige with a chop block then tags in Brie, hits a jawbreaker then Brie follows with a top rope dropkick. Knees from Brie then she trips Jax down and hits a Brie Mode knee. She kicks Lash as well but that allows Jax to put her on the apron so Lash can hold her and Jax drops her off the apron as we head to break.

Lash and Brie head back into the ring and Lash keeps control. A few of her normal spots from Lash. Brie fights back but Lash cuts her off with an elbow. Jax tags back in and sits on Brie for a bit. Brie avoids a corner attack but she can’t get away from Jax. Jax and Lash isolate Brie in the heel corner and make some quick tags. Jax bounces Brie off the mat a few times as we rejoin the broadcast. Brie avoids Jax and Jax posts herself. Lash tags in and blocks the hot tag with a knee to the body then Brie with a hurricanrana to counter a powerbomb. Paige gets the tag and unloads on Lash with elbows and kicks. Knees through the ropes from Paige then she climbs up top and Lash catches her leap, Paige slips free though and Brie blind tags. Paige with a slow Paige Turner, Brie with the sitting Bella Buster and Jax breaks up the pin. Jax tags in and squishes Brie in the corner. Annihilator attempt but Paige is here to kick her legs out. Brie with a pin, as Paige jumps onto Lash to stop her interfering and Brie gets the pin.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Brie Bella and Paige retained the titles in 7:47

Rating: 1.5 stars
Thoughts: Wade Barrett was absolutely insufferable on commentary for this one, that drags things down. Jax is still pretty plodding and Lash hasn’t developed the way you’d like during this time. Paige and Brie are just kind of playing the hits in general, and I kind of feel this more diminished Lash and Jax than elevated Brie and Paige when it was all said and done.

We get an In Memoriam graphic for the gingerbread man. Joe’s comedy on commentary works better here than whatever Trick was doing. That sends us to break.

Next week Gunther will show up to talk about attacking Cody. If I get Gunther for Fatu in the brand trade, I can live with that. We’ll also get Tiffany vs. James, and the six woman tag match of Fatal Influence vs. Bliss, Charlotte, and Ripley. Also a funeral for the gingerbread man.

In the back Sami talks with Aldis and is upset about that getting TV time next week. Aldis is grieving too and Sami tries to talk sense to him. Sami is getting that US title rematch at Backlash. Sami leaves and Danhausen comes over. Danhausen wants a match with Miz and Wilson, he can have that but needs a tag team partner for it. Danhausen says that sounds like work but agrees to do it.

The Usos head to the ring through the crowd for our main event. That will be up after this break.

Post break here come Solo and Talla.

Match #6 – Tag Team Match: The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) vs. Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga

Jey starts out throwing hands at Talla then landing a superkick and right hand. Talla with a clothesline then running elbow drop. Solo tags in and lands a headbutt. Still no heat for Solo as he tries to mock Jey. Enziguri from Jey then he tags in Jimmy as they isolate Solo in the corner. Jimmy with chops to Solo then a boot but jumps into a Spinning Solo. Solo wants a hip attack and hits it. That sends us to break.

Predictable Talla cheap shot as we resume killing time. Talla tags back in and resumes working over Jimmy. Scoop slam from Talla then Solo with a cheap shot that the ref clearly sees but has to pretend otherwise. Don’t make the ref look that stupid Solo, you’re supposed to be a professional. Solo tags back in, Jimmy fights back with a chop but runs into a back elbow. Another hip attack from Solo then Talla tags in and clotheslines Jimmy on the floor as we rejoin the broadcast. Back in the ring Solo tags back in to resume control time. Jimmy boots Solo but Talla with a clothesline from the apron to cut him off. Talla tags back in and hits a leg drop. The entire brief of this whole episode seems to be “get Talla over” with incredibly small results despite all that effort. Jimmy takes a Samoan Drop for a 2 count. Talla with a cheap shot to Jey the he tags Solo back in. Solo wants the Samoan Spike, but Jimmy fights back and avoids him sending Solo to the floor. Talla fails a corner splash and then slumps to the floor. Jey wants the hot tag, Jimmy crawls over and makes the tag. Jey with a suicide dive onto Talla then an enziguri to Solo. Crossbody from Jey then he fires up with punches to Solo and a superkick. Spear from Jey but Talla breaks up the pin. Jimmy shows up to superkick Talla, then Jey joins it and we get a lot of superkicks to Talla then they send him out of the ring. Jimmy dives onto Talla but Talla hits a right hand, then grabs Jey and rams him into the barricade. Talla sends Jimmy into the ring steps, no pop, then Talla takes apart the announce desk which finally gets a pop. But here’s Jacoby Fatu to attack Talla and get the match thrown out.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Solo Sikoa and Talla Tonga won via DQ in 10:40

Rating: 1.5 stars
Thoughts: Talla’s work is still just slow and a bit plodding. When he actually tries to move he’s got surprising speed but somehow for a man his size he seems to lack weight and presence. Solo’s just Solo, he’s hit his ceiling with this character and presentation and if it weren’t for nepotism he’d be in much worse shape because this is tired and not really working. Jimmy and Jey just did the usual stuff.

Fatu rams Talla into the ring post then gets the steps and brains Talla with them. Man Fatu’s awesome, he just feels different to everyone else. Solo and Fatu go face to face in the ring, Fatu with the Tongan Death Grip to Solo. Talla shows up and Fatu drops him then tries a suicide dive, but Talla catches him. Talla wants a chokeslam, but Fatu with the Death Grip to stun him then hits him with a massive Samoan Drop through the announce table. Good grief the Samoan Werewolf just wont be denied. Jimmy and Jey are up in the ring, Fatu stares them down and then just walks between them because he fears them not at all.

Fatu’s got a mic on the ramp now, and he again tells Jimmy and Jey to warn Roman that Fatu will dog walk his ass. He’s all gas, no brakes with this, yadda mean? That ends the episode.

5.8
The final score: review Not So Good
The 411
Kind of an odd episode this week. Way too much Solo and Talla, they were in multiple segments across an enormous amount of the three hour run time. The lack of meaningful or quality wrestling is another giant drawback tonight, nothing that took place even sniffed 3 stars and most of it was tedious. Also, people, we've been dealing with Bloodline stuff since freaking COVID, it's beyond time to let that die and move on. But no, here's more Usos vs. Solo and another Islander while talking about the Tribal Chief. To say nothing of just how blatant the Talla fellatio was. Priest and R-Truth are a fine enough team but they need direction. Ricky Saints had a solid debut though, Gunther going after Cody could be fun, but honestly Smackdown still feels kind of pointless. Very little happens, we've imported a bunch of RAW guys to fill air time after cutting giant swaths of the roster, and it really feels directionless post Mania. I'll still take this over the weeks that built to Mania but boy does the blue brand need to get it's act together.
