Results for WWC Euphoria Night 1 from Mayaguez, PR on January 5 2007

Around 800-1000 in attendance. I was live at the event and lucky enough to be sitting right next to a wrestler’s mother, which helped me have a better understanding of the unusual situations going on with the show.

Special Challenge:
Joe Bravo defeats BJ by pinfall after Hammet runs in and spears BJ.

Ladies Tag Team Match:
Amazona & La Morena defeat Genesis & Killer Kat by pinfall after Amazona pins Kat. Crowd was very involved in the match.

Special Challenge
Huracan Castillo defeats “The Cuban Assasin” Fidel Sierra by pinfall after nailng him with the ring bell. Very old-school brawl from the veterans and in spite of being the heel, the crowd was 100% behind Castillo.

Special Challenge:
Ultimo Dragon defeats Joey Mercury after the Asai DDT. Here is the first change to the card. This was supposed to be a Triple Threat for the Junior Heavyweight Title featuring El Niche and Senshi. For some reason, Senshi was removed from the cards at the last minute and replaced with Mercury. Then Niche no-showed among rumors of the entire La Rabia group jumping over to IWA. Crowd was very involved in the match and Ultimo put on a solid contest.

Legends Match:
Jose Rivera Sr defeat Victor Jovica by DQ after Barrabas Sr attacks Jose. They double team him until Carlos Colon ran out for the save. Something is going on because Carlos looked legitimately concerned, like he didnt want to be there. He got a good ovation from the fans when he came out, but he left without speaking or anything. This continues to fuel the rumors that La Rabia is gone and something is going out backstage. At this point the people behind me, one of them claims to be the mother of Romano, one of the masked men from the Legion of Armaggedon, start talking about Moody Melendez leaving WWC and that La Rabia and Bryan are all gone to IWA. The rumor starts to spread like wildfire among the fans.

Special Challenge: Non-Title Match
Juventud Rebelde(Noriega & Chris Joel) defeat Crazy Rudy and Rico Suave by pinfall. Noriega nails Rudy with a set of brass knucks and Rudy staggers into a modified Rock Bottom from Joel. I noticed several things in this match: The crowd really loves Rico Suave as a face. He was super over and spent a good deal of time in the crowd after the match. The second thing is that Joel and Noriega are drawing tons of heat and Joel carries himself like a star. He seems much better suited for a singles push than Noriega is. I mean, Noriega looks kind of goofy in his heel role, but Joel carries himself with a star attitude and he has this “it” factor that makes you notice him.

Midget Three Way Dance
Mini-Abismo Negro defeats Octagoncito and Ricochet. Funny thing is Ricochet is no midget, but a 16 year old kid! Well, at least that’s what Romano’s mom was saying. The other two are legit midgets from AAA in Mexico. Very fast and fun match that kept the crowd on their feet. Abismo pins Ricochet after a simple belly to back suplex, which was kind of an odd finish after all the cool spins and flips they where doing.

Special Challenge:
Thunder & Lightning defeat Romano and JDS. The other guy from the legion is injured, so he was replaced by generic jobber #1. Actually, generic jobber #1 is former manager/announcer Joe Don Smith under a mask. Glad I was sitting next to a wrestling mom. Anyway, crowd was red hot for T & L, but the match was slow and dull. JDS takes the 3D and T & L win.

Main Event Six Man Tag
Carlito, Eddie & Orlando Colon defeat Ron Killings, Chris Masters & Black Pain by pinfall. Another booking change here as Pain wrestled in place of Konnan. Apparently his flight was delayed and he could not make it. Pain was supposed to team up with Bryan to face Jumpin’ and Biggie, but they no-showed. Wrestling mom says that IWA made a coup on WWC and took Biggie, Jumping, Niche, Stefano, Moody, Ash Rubynsky(which I already reported), Rick Stanlee and Bryan. If this is true, RIP WWC. No seriously, they would need to open those wallets and bring in talent from the US to fill all their holes. Anyway, this was an excellent main event and everyone was super over. Specially Carlito, the place nearly exploded when he came out. After a Pier 6 Brawl, Orlando pins Killings with a Victory Roll. The heels then lay out the Colons until Thunder and Lightning made the save.

In spite of all the no-shows and changes to the card, this was one of the best WWC events I have EVER gone to. The crowd was hot for every match and all the matches, outside of T & L against the jobbers, where entertaining. The atmosphere was very uncertain, with all the rumors about the jumps and all the theories of what happened, it was kind of cool.
