YouTubular: Chris Duffy
This is from a recent suggestion in the comments. Duffy was trained by Killer Kowalski and was pushed in Kowalski’s IWF. However, in the then-WWF he was a jobber of the late eighties and early nineties. He hung on long enough to play Santa Claus in a RAW bit and get stunned by Steve Austin. Duffy died Aug. 25, 2000. He is not the same Chris Duffy who was a professional body builder and gay porn star.
Chris Duffy vs. Roddy Piper
Video Length: 2:06
Link
This is from “Superstars” with Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura on commentary. The crowd is on fire for Piper. Duffy knocks Piper off the apron with a knee before he can enter the ring. Piper gets on the apron again and Duffy knocks him off with a shoulder block. Piper manages to stay his ground a third time and slingshots Duffy to the floor. Piper comes off the apron with the belt from his kilt and whips and chokes Duffy like a dog. You would think by this point, jobbers would know not to make Piper mad. Rick Rude does an insert promo on how awesome he is and how terrible Piper is. Piper throws Duffy into the ring and wins with a spinning chop. I kid you not. Piper didn’t even take his shirt or kilt off. ¼* for just being a uniquely booked squashed.
Chris Duffy vs. Tugboat Thomas
Video Length: 3:41

Bobby Heenan is handcuffed to the guardrail. I think Big Bossman did that for Heenan talking trash on his mother. He begs someone to go get Rick Rude. Heenan nearly craps himself when Thomas comes out. He would later be Typhoon in the Natural Disasters with Earthquake. This is from “Wrestling Challenge” with McMahon on commentary. The match is secondary to everything on the outside with Heenan. Rude eventually appears and tries to snap the cuffs with his bare hands. He wants to go for help, but Heenan begs Rude not to leave him. After the match, Rude is bleeped a few times for swearing and screams at McMahon to go get the Bossman and the key.
In the match, Thomas throws Duffy into the corner and catches him on the bounce out for a backdrop. Duffy rakes the eyes. He goes up top, but Thomas catches him and slams him off. Thomas hits an avalanche in the corner. He hits a second rope splash for the win. DUD. The match meant nothing here and was just background noise, even though this was a return match from injury for Thomas.
Chris Duffy vs. Lex Luger
Video Length: 3:29
Link
This is from “Wrestling Challenge” with Gorilla Monsoon and Jim Ross on commentary. This is All-American Luger. Duffy attacks Luger while showboating for the fans. Luger reverses Duffy into the corner and pounds on him. Luger whips Duffy to the opposite corner and catches him on the bounce out for a hip toss. Luger clotheslines Duffy to the floor. We get an insert promo from Luger on wanting to win the Royal Rumble. Luger suplexes Duffy into the ring from the apron. Duffy gets a headbutt to the gut and tries for a piledriver. Luger reverses to a backdrop. He sits Duffy on the top rope and finishes with a top rope superplex. Pretty good for a Luger squash, because he was motivated at this point by being pushed solid. ¼*
Chris Duffy vs. Razon Ramon
Video Length: 5:34
Link
This is with the Portuguese commentary YouTubular fans have grown to know and love. They lock up and Ramon throws Duffy off with prejudice. Ramon brings Duffy out of the corner with a hip toss. Ramon is in his alternate green trunks. Duffy blocks a hip toss off the ropes, but Ramon blocks the reversal and kicks Duffy in the knee to set up a uranage. Ramon works an STF. He gets tired of that and whips Duffy into the ropes to take a back elbow. Ramon rolls Duffy around the ring like a blubber ball with nudges from his boot. That’s cold man. Ramon paint brushes him with slaps. Duffy makes it to his feet and takes the discuss punch. Duffy won’t go down, so Razor delivers a second. He pulls Duffy up and puts his strap down so he can chop his bare chest. This is getting sad now. Ramon slaps Duffy around some more and drops an elbow. Ramon works an abdominal stretch. He sits Duffy on top for a backdrop superplex. Razor’s Edge finally ends the carnage. That’s how you get yourself over as a dick heel. Ramon made Duffy look like a chump and you couldn’t wait for him to mercifully end it. ¼*
Chris Duffy vs. Friar Ferguson
Video Length: 6:13
Link
This is from “RAW” with Mcmahon, Rob Bartlett and Randy Savage on commentary. Ferguson was Norman the Lunatic and Bastion Booger. Here’s dressed in a big brown monk’s robe. It’s his debut.
Duffy pushes Ferguson a few times and Ferguson finally shoves back to send Duffy flying. Duffy rakes the eyes and tries a piledriver because he’s nuts. Ferguson backdrops out. Ferguson with a leg drop and Duffy rolls to the floor. Ferguson goes out to get him. Duffy tries to slingshot Ferguson in from the apron, but he reverses to send Duffy back to the floor. Back in the ring, Duffy is whipped to the corner and takes a hip toss on the bounce out. Ferguson hits a clothesline and dances. He hits a body slam and a big splash. He breaks his own cover at two. That should have been in it, because the fans are starting to turn on the match for being too long for what it is. Ferguson hits an avalanche. Ferguson blesses Duffy and then kicks him in the ribs. Duffy is introduced to the turnbuckle and sells it like a cannonball hit him. I think even Duffy is getting bored so he’s overselling everything. Ferguson puts his robe over Duffy’s face. Ferguson works a double trapezes hold. Oh, for crying out loud. Ferguson hits a backdrop and chokes Duffy on the top rope. Duffy tries to turn a backdrop into a sunset flip, but Ferguson sits down on him and ends it. Wow, that sucked. DUD.
Chris Duffy vs. Jeff Jarrett
Video Length: 5:18
Link
This is from “Superstars” with McMahon and Stan Lane on commentary. Double J looks to be wearing shredded Halloween streamers. This is his “Superstars” debut. Double J puts himself over in an insert promo before the match.
Jarrett begs off, but then sucker punches Duffy. He hits a dropkick off the ropes. He hits a back elbow off the ropes. Duffy blocks a hip toss and gets one of his own. He gets a body slam, but misses an elbow drop. Jarrett rakes Duffy’s face on the mat and kicks him in the head. Jarrett misses an elbow and a punch off the ropes, but finally lands a kick and finishes with a DDT. ¼* Good enough to introduce Jarrett as a character. Jarrett gets a microphone and says he will rename the WWF the Double J F. Yeah, I don’t remember that getting over.
Chris Duffy and Lanny Poffo vs. Jimmy Jack and Hoss Funk with Jimmy Hart
Video Length: 5:02
Link
Poffo reads a love poem about the Junk Yard Dog before the match. JYD was feuding with the Funks and Hart at the time. McMahon and Bruno Sammartino are on commentary. Hoss is Dory Funk Jr. and Jimmy Jack was Jesse Barr.
Poffo starts out by rocking Jimmy Jack. JJ uses the hair to take Poffo down, but he springs right back up and hits a hip toss. Hoss runs into the ring for a hip toss. Poffo dropkicks JJ and then Hoss to the floor. Duffy brawls with Hoss outside. Things calm down and Duffy tags in. He works over Duffy. Hoss in. He throws Duffy to the floor and JJ beats him up out there. Back in the ring, Hoss hits a big elbow, but allows Duffy to tag Poffo. Hoss brings Poffo into the ring by his hair. Poffo gets a cross body for a cover. A body slam sets up a moonsault that meets knees. Keep in mind this is like 1986. Poffo manages to tag Duffy, but he walks into a back elbow. Tag to JJ and Duffy eats a double team forearm. So is that like an eight arm? Jimmy Jack hits a power slam and tags Hoss who applies a version of the sharpshooter for the win. Again, this is like 1986. Duffy is hogtied after the match while Hart times the Funks. An interesting mismatch of styles here makes this watchable in a sort of car crash kind of way. ¼*
Chris Duffy and Joe Milano vs. the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers
Video Length: 2:18
Link
This has to be the height of Duffy’s career. It’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event” with Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan on commentary. The YouTube comments say this was a dark match that aired on “Wrestling Challenge” and was the start of the Rougeaus heel turn.
Milano starts out with Ray. Ray works Milano over in the corner then hits a big hip toss. Milano begs off and tags Duffy. Jacques in. The Rougeaus do an insert promo saying they get booed by about 25 percent of the people in the buildings they wrestle in, because Dino Bravo gives them a bad name. Jacques gets an armlock into a backdrop and then hits major sky on a double knee drop. Tag to Ray. Jacques sends Duffy into the ropes, leapfrogs him and Ray chops him. Tag to Milano. He walks into a drop toehold. Ray follows with a body slam. Milano slips behind Ray on something and tries a victory roll. Jacques comes off the top to clothesline Milano off of Ray’s shoulders. Ray pins Milano. Duffy then comes in and takes le Bombe de Rougeau for fun. Rougeaus looked awesome as usual. They were very ahead of their time as a tag team. ½*
Chris Duffy and Bert Centeno vs. The Steiner Brothers
Video Length: 3:20
Link
This is from “Superstars” with McMahon and Jerry Lawler on commentary. The Steiners killed bitches dead at this point. Scott gets a heel pick on Centeno and works the ankle. Scott backdrops Centeno off the ropes. The Quebecers with Johnny Polo cut an insert promo on Jacques vs. Rick for next week. Duffy tags in and actually gets some knees in the corner on Scott. Scott reverses a whip and gets a hip toss on the bounce out. Scott gets a belly to belly overhead suplex. Tag to Rick. He slams Duffy into the corner with a gutbuster press. That’s what I’m calling it. Tags all around. Steiner Driver on Centeno. Rick takes Centeno off of Scott’s shoulders with a bulldog and covers for the win. ½ * It’s just always awe inspiring to see the Steiners around this period.
The 411: On the service Duffy would seem like a pudgy jobber without much to bring to the table outside of being a decent seller. However, if you look at the matches above Duffy easily plays the aggressive heel who gets one upped in the Piper match and the sympathetic face who is just embarrassed by Razor Ramon. That’s the sign of a real utility man, one who can play the face and heel equally well depending on what’s needed and who he’s up against. |
