Jon Jones’ Sponsor Says Banned Substance Didn’t Come From Their Supplement
Jon Jones says that the potential doping violation that saw him pulled from UFC 200 could have been from a tainted supplement, but one of his sponsors say it’s not one of theirs. Mark Post, the VP of GAT Nutrition, spoke with USA Today and said that if Jones was flagged due to a supplement, it didn’t come from the company.
“Nothing Jon is using from GAT contains anything that is banned,” Post told the site. “We do extensive third-party testing, and we know he has been tested (with no positives for performance-enhancing drugs) several times. Everything has come up clear. We have no idea what has changed in what he has taken over the last month. We don’t live with Jon and don’t even know what the banned substance is.”
He added, “We have had no issues with any of our products. That’s what makes me question what (the banned substance) is. We don’t take chances with our athletes.”
The specific substance or substances that Jones tested positive for have not yet been revealed. The sample that tested positive was collected on June 16th. Jones could face a ban of up to two years due to the violation.
When asked if his company would cut ties with Jones, Post said the company would hold off on a decision until the process is complete.
