Why People Don’t Like Roman Reigns
The WWE universe doesn’t like Roman Reigns. Everyone seems to know this except for the top WWE decision maker. People don’t dislike Reigns because he’s been forced down our throats with multiple title reigns that last for months or because he’s constantly overcoming the odds. People don’t like Roman Reigns simply because he’s a little bitch.
It all started at the 2015 Royal Rumble. Reigns entered at #19, spent 27 minutes in the ring, and eventually won. None of this sounds bad until you realize that he spent half the match chilling in the corner doing nothing and then needed help from The Rock to win. It’s fine with needing a little help to win. Mick Foley needed Steve Austin’s help to win his first world title, but Foley proved he has a tough bastard at the 1998 King of the Ring and was constantly screwed out of the title for months. Reigns was just kind of a guy having matches for the majority of 2014.
The tide started to turn a bit at Fastlane when Reigns had a good, competitive match with Daniel Bryan and really turned at Wrestlemania 31 when he took an ass-kicking from Brock Lesnar, but kept smiling and fighting back. Even though he didn’t win the title that night due to Seth Rollins cashing in, he earned a little respect.
After spending the summer cooling off, Roman heated up again in the fall, earning a title shot at Survivor Series. Unfortunately, Seth Rollins got injured and plans had to change. Those change of plans saw Roman win the vacant title by defeating Dean Ambrose in an anti-climatic tournament final. Not great, but also not the worst way to put the title on a guy. However, Sheamus cashed in after the match and immediately took the title from Reigns. His response? To cry as Sheamus and Triple H celebrated. Remember when Steve Austin cried when Vince McMahon screwed him out of the title?
Finally, momentum shifted back in Roman’s favor at TLC. After being screwed over again, Reigns snapped. He destroyed the League of Nations and Triple H. He finally showed a little fire and passion and the crowd responded. Roman was finally getting cheers instead of boos and silence. Those cheers continued the next night when he won the World Heavyweight Title again, overcoming the odds stacked against him by Vince McMahon.
And it’s been downhill ever since.
It again started at the Royal Rumble. This year, instead of taking nap in the corner, Roman took a nap backstage. The goal was to get sympathy for Roman by having the League of Nations take him out, but that didn’t work because Reigns simply isn’t a sympathetic figure. Sure, he’d been screwed out of the title a couple of times and he was put in a tough position at Rumble, being forced to enter #1 and defend his title. But he’s not a sympathetic figure and has never been cheered as such. He’s been cheered as an ass kicker. In the end, Reigns lost the title fair and square (he was eliminated by a legal participant, unlike say, Brock Lesnar) and pretty much took things in stride the next night.
Here’s where things get really bad. During the entire build up to his triple threat match against Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar at Fastlane, Reigns just took a backseat to Ambrose and Lesnar. While Ambrose was begging for a fight, Roman just sat back and smiled. This would’ve been fine if it were leading to a heel turn, showing his brilliance to let these two beat the hell out of each other while he sat back and capitalized, but that wasn’t the plan. The plan was to…well, I’m not really sure there was a plan. Roman won the triple threat match, once again in anti-climatic fashion.
The true “Roman Reigns is a bitch” capper came last week. His friend, his brother, Dean Ambrose was attacked before the show by Lesnar and sent to the hospital. Instead of visiting his friend or going after the guy who attacked him, he tried to check in via text. When Ambrose returned and once again got his ass-kicked by Lesnar, instead of saving his friend, he did nothing, once again just checking in via text later in the night. This just goes to show that he’s a terrible friend, the next part explains why he’s a bitch. At the end of the night, Triple H beats the hell out of Reigns and busts his nose to a chorus of cheers. This attack kept Reigns off of TV this past week due to “surgery.” It’s an explainable action. John Cena was kept off TV for a week after nose surgery (although he did finish and win the match where his nose was busted and his injury was legit) so Reigns being off TV makes sense.
What doesn’t make sense is that Dean Ambrose, a week after ending up in the hospital, returning that same night, and taking another beating was at Raw and ready to, you guessed it, fight. And not only did he fight, but he took a beatdown similar to the one Reigns took at the end of Raw at the same hands of Triple H and you know what? Ambrose was on Smackdown. Ready to fight.
Why would anyone cheer for a guy who takes time off, needs help, and doesn’t seem to care about anyone or anything but himself? Why would anyone cheer for a bitch?
