411’s WWE NXT Report 11.27.14
First things first, Happy Thanksgiving! After stuffing my face with food at three different houses, I’m stuffing my face with some good old fashioned pro wrestling.
Marcus Louis vs. Tyler Breeze
I was just thinking that it’s been a while since I’ve seen Tyler Breeze. Marcus Louis has no theme music and is still feeling the negative effects of losing his hair. Tyler looks grossed out because Marcus is pretty much an “uggo” right now. He takes a microphone and calls Marcus the uggo of all uggos. He doesn’t want to be the precious to Marcus’ Golem. He takes the towel off of Marcus and berates him before hitting the Beauty Shot to win.
Winner: Tyler Breeze in 2:27
Much like last week, this was a quick match and wasn’t very good as it was only one more. It did, however, continue the development of Marcus Louis’ new character. No Rating.
After the match, Marcus Louis makes a weird howling noise before throwing a fit in the ring. It’s strange as hell, drawing “This is awkward” chants. We see clips of Louis walking out of the arena in his trunks.
Carmella w/ Enzo Amore and Big Cass vs. Blue Pants
For those who don’t remember, when Carmella made her debut, she faced indy wrestler Leva Bates. She was called “blue pants” by Enzo Amore. The fans actually chanted “Blue Pants” before Enzo announced the match and popped hard for her appearance. Enzo and Cass do her introduction and are highly entertaining. Poor Carmella has to deal with “let’s go Blue Pants” chants. Blue Pants does arm work before getting shoulder blocked and taking some dropkicks. Carmella puts on her leg submission and Blue Pants taps out.
Winner: Carmella in 0:48
Another short match. While I love competitive wrestling on NXT, this had an old school squash feel. SQUASH.
Finn Balor is interviewed backstage about his first ever singles match tonight. He calls Bret Hart Tyson Kidd’s uncle, which is strange.
Non-Title Match: NXT Tag Team Champions The Lucha Dragons vs. Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger
It is announced that The Lucha Dragons will defend the title against the Vaudevillians at NXT: Revolution. Tye gets “Charlie Haas” chants as Sin Cara and Kalisto work the arm and hit a nice wheelbarrow senton double team move. Quick tags continue as Cara comes in and hits Tye in the arm. Jordan blind tags in and dropkicks Sin Cara. Jordan mocks the LUCHA chant and knocks Kalisto off the apron before a scoop slam. Tye stomps on Cara to finish off a dull double team maneuver. They go for a whip into a dropkick, but Cara reverses and Tye gets leveled. Commentary mentions that they have a lot of mis communication. Kalisto gets the tag and nails a psingboard cross body, springboard corkscrew and springboard arm drag. The last one sends Tye outside, leading Cara to hit a suicide dive. Kalisto connects with the SDS on Jordan to pick up the win.
Winners: The Lucha Dragons in about 4:00 (stopwatch issues)
Decent tag team match, but Jason Jordan and Tye Dillinger have some work to do. **
A recap is shown of Charlotte coming to Bayley’s aid against Team BAE. Bayley is coming to address the NXT Universe, next!
A longer promo video airs for Kevin Owens! He talks about how he’s worked for 14 years to get to the WWE and will do it against the doubters. I love Kevin Steen so this was tremendous. “My name is Kevin Owens, and I am going to change everything.”
Bayley and her WACKYWAVINGINFLATABLEARMFLAILINGTUBEMEN are out to a big pop. She wanted to come out even though Charlotte isn’t around tonight because she wants to deal with the bullies that are Team BAE. Of course, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch arrive on the scene to Sasha’s awesome theme. They’re laughing at Bayley as they walk to the ring. Sasha pushes Bayley, who pushes back but a shot from behind by Becky changes things. They stomp on her a few times before officials come out. The attack itself didn’t look very dangerous bu the mocking Team BAE does comes off very well.
Natalya and Tyson Kidd are shown and Natalya is asked about the match with Finn Balor. She gives a long winded response and Tyson says to just talk to him as he interrupts her. He blames the tag loss from two weeks ago on Justin Gabriel, because he’s a loser. Tyson says he’s been training with uncle Bret and that there’s a new Hitman on the rise. Nattie wants a hug but Tyson has to Face Time with the cats at home. Could Tyson be any better?
Before the main event, we see a “Vaudevillians Pictures” production. It’s a silent film that involves Simon Gotch fighting a beat and Aiden English doing push ups. Last week’s Lucha Loompas are involved. I won’t even go into detail. It’s funny though. The card for the NXT special on 12/11/14 is run down, also informing us of Sasha Banks getting an NXT Women’s Title shot.
Finn Balor vs. Tyson Kidd w/ Natalya
Before the bell, Hideo Itami and Finn Balor vs. The Ascension is announced for 12/11. Mat wrestling sequence to start and Kidd goes to the ropes to break Balor’s grip. Another sequence that’s won by Balor until Tyson moves into a headlock. Balor breaks it and they seem to miss a spot, so Tyson goes back to the headlock. “Nattie’s wife” chant as Balor breaks it and they hit what I assume was the missed spot when Balor dropkicks Kidd outside. He goes for a dive, but Tyson LITERALLY hides behind Nattie’s skirt, so Balor thinks better of it. After a break, Tyson is hitting Balor but eats a kick to the face. Balor goes to springboard in, but Tyson dropkicks him to the outside. He hits a nice neckbreaker on the outside, getting a two inside. Kidd slingshots Balor while he’s under the bottom turnbuckle, so he hits pretty hard. It only gets a near fall, but commentary does a good job in selling how much that must hurt. Balor goes to rally but again, Kidd uses a spin kick to stifle that. Kidd puts Balor in the tree of woe and is upset because Natalya won’t cheat, so he goes out and pulls on Balor or her. A running dropkick gets another two count. Back to the headlock goes Tyson, but his suplex is reversed and Balor starts to light him up with chops. He ducks a clothesline and hits the Pele kick! Suplex variation earns him two but the tide has turned for sure. Balor sets up in the opposite corner but his charge in is stopped by a boot. Tyson climbs up, so Balor kicks him. He falls to the mat and Balor goes for the double foot stomp but Tyson moves. He tries the Sharphostter but that’s blocked and he drop toe holds Balor into the bottom buckle. A guillotine leg drop over the bottom rope gets Tyson yet another near fall. Springboard elbow from Tyson is blocked by Balor getting his knees up. He bounces off the ropes with a big running kick before climbing up for the double stomp. The Ascension come out and cause the DQ.
Winner via disqualification: Finn Balor in 10:11
For his first singles match on NXT, Finn Balor delivered. He and Tyson, two of my favorite people to watch right now, had a damn good match. I can only imagine how much better Balor matches will get when he becomes even more comfortable. ***1/2
The Ascension continue to pound on Finn Balor until Hideo Itami runs out! The teams are just going to war and beating the hell out of each other. Officials comes out to break this up but they are having some trouble. Even jobbers come out and the brawl continues as the show ends.
Overall: 7/10. I know that last week I got down on NXT for the number of short matches but tonight’s were different. The opener was short but provided character development and Carmella’s squash made sense. The Lucha Dragons match was decent and the main event was very good. I also enjoyed the segments like the Bayley stuff, Vaudevillians Pictures and the Kevin Owens vignette. All in all, an entertaining hour of wrestling.
