Details On How Fan Reactions Have Changed This Year’s Wrestlemania Plans
This year’s Wrestlemania is shaping up to be a big one (certainly a long one), and according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, part of that is due to the WWE fans. It seems that the McMahon Family wasn’t joking earlier this year when they told the WWE audience that we are the authority, because WWE has been listening to fan reactions in regards to who to put in main event situations.
This is true in the case of Becky Lynch, as the plan to put her in the main event match (and win, if she does), is completely due to the fan reaction she received after she turned on Charlotte at Summerslam. That means that the fans will have decided to make her a double champion if she wins the match. Vince McMahon made the call on March 19 to make the winner of the match a double champion, although various ideas of having both belts on the line have been pitched for months. The plan is to push Lynch as the female face of the company, which is something WWE decided when they realized they couldn’t control the fan reactions. While we previously noted that the plan is reportedly for Lynch to win, Vince could still change his mind depending on if Rousey decides to stay (which would likely lead to Lynch vs Rousey one on one later on) or if WWE wants to stretch out the storyline with Charlotte as the handpicked favorite a little while longer.
The decision to turn Ronda Rousey heel was also done in response to the fans’ reactions.
Meanwhile, Kofi Kingston’s match with Daniel Bryan was also unplanned. His match was originally set to go to Kevin Owens, but once again, fan reaction for Kingston after the gauntlet match and Elimination Chamber saw WWE decided to change things up.
This isn’t the first time that fans have changed things, however, as Vince McMahon has twice decided against ending shows with Roman Reigns winning due to fan backlash, even after building it up for months.
