Universal Pictures is bringing the How To Train Your Dragon franchise to live action with a remake, and the first teaser is online. The studio released the official teaser for the live-action reimagining of the hit animated film on Tuesday, and you can check it out below.
The new film is written and directed by Dean DeBlois, who co-wrote and co-directed the original film and served as writer and director for the sequels. Mason Thames steps into the role of Hiccup, while Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoick. Nico Parker, Nick Forst, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz and Murray McArthur also star.
The film releases on June 13th, 2025 and is described as follows:
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon.
Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (Nico Parker) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.
