– During the latest Grilling JR, Jim Ross recalled the infamous Kane vs. Great Khali match from SummerSlam 2009 and why someone put the match together at all. The match followed two months of feuding between the men and was, to say the least, not great in quality. But it was not the end of the feud, as they would go on to have a second match at Breaking Point the next month. Ross discussed the mindset behind booking the whole thing that way.

“Yeah, it was not good,” he said. “You just try to get through it, you know. It could have gone shorter, and I’d have been happy. But here’s the difference. A viewer had a question the other day on a show I did about, the difference [between] a booker and a writer. Well, they are two different roles. A booker would have looked at this match and said, ‘We’ll never do that one again. We’re done.’ That was not said. Vince was the booker, that’s what Vince in hindsight should probably have said, and maybe he wanted to say. But partly with the lobbyists within that organization known as writers in some eras, where fighting for their cause. Because somebody had the idea that this could be almost like Hogan vs. Andre. The two giant guys, big men, you know, and all this stuff. It wasn’t.”
