– Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland broke off as a tag team following ROH Final Battle in December. However, they never had a one-on-one matchup or faced in each other in a blowoff to their feud. It was reported by Fightful Select in July that there were plans in place to finally book the match, but it never materialized. Meltzer had an update on the angle during today’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
Meltzer said on the matchup, “They’re just not going to do it. They already made that call. They’re just not going to do it.” Meltzer did not pin down why the match isn’t happening, but he suggested “I know that there’s — what was the deal? People think it won’t be good? We get not so good matches on TV all the time. Just freaking do it.”
Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland have faced each other in tag team bouts earlier this year in AEW, but they’ve yet to have a singles match. It appears that will continue to be the case. Lee last wrestled on the August 23 edition of Collision, beating Zicky Dice in a one-on-one matchup.
