Jim Ross Reflects On Vince McMahon’s 1999 Motorcycle Accident
On a recent episode of his podcast, “Grilling JR,” Jim Ross discussed Vince McMahon breaking his tailbone in a 1999 motorcycle accident and more.
On the motorcycle accident: “Well, it scared the hell out of all of us, because you don’t want to lose your leader. He probably dodged a bullet there. I’ve had some tailbone issues. You can’t get comfortable; you hurt all the time. But he manned up. He led the troops into battle, and he did it on a regular basis. Well, we were lucky that he didn’t have to get hospitalized for an extended length of time. But luckily, that was not the case. But it was kind of scary, to be honest with you, for a while. Because he managed the company so much on his own. He had the ability, expertise, and desire to be involved in everything. And to lose someone of that magnitude would have been very, very tough at that point in time.”
On whether he was surprised Sable got a settlement from WWE in 1999 and returned in 2003: “The answer to both questions is no, I wasn’t surprised. It’s all a matter of putting an ass every 18 inches and selling products and merchandise. And she proved along the way that she could sell merchandise, whether the calendars or pictures or T-shirts or whatever it may be. She was very, very marketable. And Vince saw that and saddled that horse, in all due respect, and rode it to the pay window.”
