Matt Damon Seeks To Return Home in Official Trailer Release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey

The official trailer has arrived for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated new feature, The Odyssey. You can check out the newly revealed trailer of the upcoming Universal Pictures release in the player below.

In this new adaptation of Homer’s foundational saga, Odysseus (Matt Damon) seeks to return home after the Trojan War. However, a perilous journey awaits him across land and see.

The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Lupita Nyong’o,, Zendaya, and Charlize Theron.

Based on the trailer, it appears Nolan will incorporate the supernatural and mythological elements of Homer’s tale, and it won’t be as grounded of a story as the 2004 movie, Troy, which loosely adapted Homer’s epic poem, The Iliad, and featured Sean Bean as Odysseus.

Nolan directs from a script he wrote. He also serves as producer along with Emma Thomas from their Syncopy banner. Thomas Hayslip is executive producing the project.

As noted by the trailer, the film was entirely shot with IMAX film cameras. The Odyssey journeys into theaters everywhere, with special engagements in 70 mm, 35 mm and IMAX, on July 17, 2026.
