Thekla Weighs In On Kris Statlander’s New Intensity, Says She Breaks People To Help Them Grow

Thekla finds Kris Statlander’s new intensity amid their feud to be an interesting thing, and says it could be the sign that her efforts are starting to work. Thekla defeated Statlander in a violent strap match on AEW Dynamite last month in order to capture the AEW Women’s Championship. Statlander has been showing new levels of intensity since, with the two set to rematch at AEW Revolution.

Thekla spoke with The Sportster for a new interview promoting the upcoming show. During the conversation, she spoke about Statlander showing a edgier side and said that it could be a sign of her working, and even thinks Statlander could come knocking if she realizes Thekla’s way is better. On If She’s Worried About Statlander’s New Intensity:

“That’s a very interesting question. I really cannot tell. She’s been showing like when I saw her out on Wednesday, she showed a very different side of herself. So I think something’s starting to work.

“But on the other hand, maybe she’s starting to realize that one, I’m better. And two, the way I do things is better. So who knows? Maybe she might come knocking, it’s like, ‘Hey, can I come in? Can I be part of this team?’ So I can see that happening too.”

On Her Character’s Approach:

“I break people’s spirits to actually help them grow, you know what I mean? It’s not only — my viciousness, my evilness don’t come from a bad place, I’d like to say. I actually help people get to their next level. And I think Kris was going through a phase where she doesn’t — she said it in many interviews. She doesn’t know, she hasn’t figured out who she is. She hasn’t figured out what she wants. And she did not know how to carry herself as a champion.

“So I think — I don’t that problem at all. I know exactly how to carry a belt. I know exactly who I am, and maybe the way, like facing me also maybe helps her get closer to finding out who she is. And I love that for her.”
