Royce Keys Says His Past is Not Going to Define What He’s About to Do

Royce Keys is focused on what lies ahead for him and doesn’t want to dwell on the past.
Keys jumped ship from AEW to WWE earlier this year, debuting for the company at the Royal Rumble Premium Live Event. However, he had to wait for over two months to make his debut on weekly programming.
This led to fans criticizing his decision to join WWE for AEW, where he was featured weekly. During a recent appearance on The Ringer Wrestling, Keys said that fans are quick to criticize wrestlers when they don’t immediately find success after moving from one promotion to another. He said that while he is grateful for the past, it’s not going to define his future.
“That’s my past. If I focus on my past, I’m not going to succeed for my future. It was cool because I sat down with Hunter and asked if I could do these dark matches, and he looked at me and said, ‘F*ck, yeah! This dude wants to get it.’ I want to learn, and I want to be here. All that past stuff, I’m grateful for it, but it’s not going to define what I’m about to do. Your past sets you up for your future.”

During the conversation, Royce Keys revealed that he did close to a dozen dark matches before his SmackDown debut two weeks ago. Keys won the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal this past Friday.
