Cook’s Lucha Libre AAA Review 6.20.26
Then. Now. Forever. Together!
We’re in Merida! El Ojo is WALKING! Rey Fenix GETS OUT OF HIS CAR! El Grande Americano is WALKING AND HOLDING A BIRD! Corey Graves is joined by JBL & Rey Mysterio.
Mini Vikingo & El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. El Hijo del Vikingo & Omos (w/Dorian Roldan): Rey claims he wouldn’t mind if somebody wanted to call themselves Rey Mysterio Junior. Here’s your chance, luchadores! I will be referring to Hijo del Vikingo as “Vikingo” when in the ring with Wagner, and “Hijo” when he’s in the ring with Mini Vikingo. I get confused easily at my advanced age. Vikingo goes after Mini and Wagner kicks him down. Some shots in the corner, splash to Vikingo in the corner and a dropkick to the back for two by Wagner. Vikingo evades Wagner in the corner by spinning to the apron, then hits a sunset flip, but his feet on the ropes doesn’t result in a three count. Vikingo stretches Wagner, Wagner comes back with a powerslam. Tag to Mini, dropkick to Hijo. Mini with some flips, springboard tornillo. Hijo with a Pele kick to Mini. Omos clubbers Mini in the corner while the referee is distracted, then tags in. He chokes Mini on the ropes. Some slaps from Hijo & Dorian while the ref’s back is turned. Omos beals Mini across the ring. Elbowdrops by Omos. Omos pulls Mini up by the neck. Tag to Hijo, who goes for a powerbomb off the top that’s reversed by a Mini rana. Tag to Wagner, clotheslines for Vikingo. DVD gets two for Wagner. Vikingo with some kicks to Wagner, he kicks Mini out of the ring and hits a meteroa in the corner. Omos sends Wagner into the steps. Crucifix driver by Mini, and he gets the three count on Hijo!
Winners: Mini Vikingo & El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. (6:36 via pinfall)
Match Rating:**1/4
Not too much to this one, the continuation of Mini getting the upper hand on Hijo is interesting. I’ve noticed families like to work together in this sport, as partners or enemies.
Omos attacks after, he & Vikingo stomp on Mini, then toss Wagner outside and into the ringpost. Omos with a big clothesline to Wagner on the floor. Omos gets the steps, and that’s when Galeno appears to make the save! Galeno with strikes to Omos, Vikingo dives onto him, Galeno chucks him across ringside. Omos rams the steel stairs into Galeno and stands tall to end the proceedings.
“Dirty” Dominik Mysterio talks about the changes that have happened in AAA, the one thing that remains the same is he’s still AAA Mega Champion. He will main event TripleMania, be King of the Luchadores and be remembered forever.
Rey Fenix contemplates his upcoming title defense.
Psycho Clown is walking backstage and he claims that he will put the Psycho Circus back together.
We see a video package showing Rey Fenix ending Laredo Kid’s lengthy reign as Cruiserweight Champion. Good way to catch everybody up on what’s been going on with these two.
Cruiserweight Championship Triple Threat Match: Rey Fenix (c) vs. Laredo Kid vs. Lince Dorado: Laredo may have lost the championship but now he has a crown. I hope he hasn’t had it forever and this is just the first time I noticed it. Dorado is on quite the win streak and is in fact the #1 contender. Laredo headscissors Fenix into Dorado, then ranas Fenix over. He forearms both in the corner, then Michinoku drives Fenix for two. Dorado breaks it up, and Laredo smacks him around. Fenix monkey flips Dorado into a rana on Laredo. Dorado kicks Fenix out of the ring, then gets a nearfall on Laredo. Rollup by Dorado gets two, Fenix hits a handspring elbow on Dorado, then a spinning faceplant on Laredo gets two. Laredo trips Fenix near the ropes, then sends him into the steps. Laredo backdrops Dorado on the floor. Laredo hits a moonsault off the top rope onto both men on the floor. Laredo covers Dorado for two in the ring. Laredo with a vertical suplex, a Northern Lights suplex gets two. Dorado rolls Laredo up for two. Laredo slams Dorado, hits a twisting splash off the second rope for two. Fenix keeps getting smacked off the apron by Laredo. Dorado backdrops Laredo, hits a back stratch & backstabber, then hits moonsaults from the bottom & middle turnbuckles. Laredo gets the boots up for the third. Dorado gets smacked out of the ring and Laredo works Fenix over in the corner. Laredo misses a charge, Fenix walks the ropes and hits the Goodbye Amigo! Fenix dives onto Dorado outside, comes back in and hits a DVD on Laredo for two! It sure looked like three. Dorado uses Fenix’s leg to kick Laredo, then hits a handspring into a stereo Stunner on both. Fenix gets covered for two. Laredo gets double superkicked, Dorado & Fenix kick each other then Laredo hits a double destroyer DDT for two! Fenix shoves Laredo off the turnbuckle, then Droado runs up and kicks Fenix! Dorado hits a tope onto Laredo on the floor, then joins Fenix on the top turnbuckle. Dorado hits a super rana, then goes up top, Laredo knocks him down to the Spanish announce table! Laredo’s frog splash meets the knees of Fenix. Laredo is placed up top, Fenix hits the Mexican Musclebuster for three!
Winner: Rey Fenix (11:11 via pinfall)
Match Rating: ***1/2
This was exactly what you would expect from a Triple Threat with these three involved, which means it was a lot of fun.
Laredo celebrates in the aisleway while Laredo & Dorado argue in the ring.
Up next: the return of El Grande Americano!
Rey Mysterio congratulates Fenix on his win and says he’s negotiating with the GMs of the other WWE brands for Fenix to defend the title on their shows. Lola Vice will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against La Hiedra next week on this show, and he’s negotiating with a former champion in WWE that has never wrestled in AAA.
We see a video package of the Mask vs. Mask match.
The mariachi band plays Cielito Lindo, then El Grande Americano’s music plays! EGA makes his way down to the ring. He poses with children and daps up the Spanish announcers. One seemed quite reluctant, he must be the rudo announcer. I am no longer surprised we only got two matches this week, this entrance is reaching Bloodline levels of length. I will say I have more fun with this one. Grande asks Merida what’s up. Together, they took down the shorty and demonstrated the force of AAA, lucha libre & Mexican culture. He had help from his friends and his people. He talks about the blind comedian that always believed in him even though he never saw him. He thanks the legend, Pimpinela! Pimpi reminds him every day of what lucha libre means: passion, heart & pride. His girlfriend Andrea was there for him when things got difficult. She was always by his side, and he will always fight for her because he loves her. He thanks his people who lifted him up when he was down. They were by his side always and he’ll never forget it. This victory is for all of his people in Mexico. What’s next? He won Rey de Reyes, the mask of OG Americano, and now he wants the AAA Mega Championship. He challenges Dirty Dom, and Karmen Petrovic makes her way to ringside. OK, that’s a random one. She stands at ringside and Grande yells at her…uh oh, we got three guys on the apron! Daga, Bronco Niema, Angel & Berto enter the ring and they all attack Grande! They don’t even work for AAA! They all take their jackets off and reveal Perros Del Mal shirts! What the hell? Karmen hits a spinning knee strike to EGA and the new Perros pose as our show comes to an end. So long for now!
