El Grande Americano has reached the top of AAA, winning the Mega Championship in a chaotic main event at AAA Triplemania 34 night two. Americano defeated Dominik Mysterio in the headlining bout at Sunday night’s show, a No Disqualification match, to capture the title.

The 17 and a half minute bout saw plenty of interference throughout. The Judgment Day’s JD McDonagh got involved as did Dorian Roldan, which led to Los Americanos taking McDonagh out. However, Omos came down and destroyed them before going after Americano. Americano avoided a choke slam into the commentary table by going for the eye, then hitting a low blow kick and teeing off on Omos with a chair. Americano then hit a charging headbutt for a nearfall and went up top, but Liv Morgan came down to crotch him on the ropes. Dom hit a 619 and a frog splash, but Americano kicked out to Dom and Morgan’s shock.

Americano then came off the ropes for a headbutt, but Mysterio pulled the ref in the way. He nailed Americano in the back with the title and went for the frog splash again, but Americano moved and hit the headbutt. Rey Mysterio came down to the ring in a neck brace and a referee shirt, and counted the pinfall for Americano to signal the new champion.

You can see clips from the AAA Triplemania 34 match below. This marks Americano’s first run with the title, and ends Mysterio’s reign at 366 days. Mysterio won the title from El Hijo del Vikingo at Worlds Collide: Las Vegas.
