Daniel Cormier on Keeping His UFC 252 Training in a Bubble to Protect His Pregnant Wife From Getting Sick
TMZ Sports recently chatted with former UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier ahead of his upcoming title rematch with Stipe Miocic later this month. According to Cormier, he’s been keeping his training camp in a “bubble” environment in order to protect his wife, who is currently seven-and-a-half-months pregnant.
Cormier is reportedly to make this the last fight of his MMA career. He’s been staying at a second home and limiting interactions with his family due to the currently ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Cormier commented, “Yeah, I got a pregnant wife who’s 7.5 months pregnant. Two kids, a 9-year-old, an 8-year-old, and I’m not even living at home because I’m having to prepare for this fight — but that also shows the commitment from the family to understand what I’m trying to do here is so special.”
With regards to his legacy, Daniel Cormier added: “I think that all the things I’ve done at heavyweight and at light heavyweight makes me one of the greatest fighters of all time, period! But, if I become a 2-time heavyweight champion there’s only a few guys that’ve done that before in their careers. I think that by being the most dominant heavyweight of all time twice would make me the greatest heavyweight UFCs ever seen.”
He continued on his longtime rival, Stipe Miocic, “Obviously, Stipe’s accomplishments and accolades speak for themselves. You know he’s won everything. This is a true legacy fight.” He continued, “People don’t like to talk about legacy all the time, but this a legacy fight in it’s purest form.”
Cormier vs. Miocic III will take place at UFC 252. The fight card is scheduled for August 15 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be closed to the general public. It will be broadcast live on PPV via ESPN+. Prelims will be shown on ESPN and UFC Fight Pass.
