Desmond Green Thinks That His Win Over Gleison Tibau Raised Some Eyes
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Desmond Green spoke about his win over Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night 133, which ended a two-fight losing streak. Here are highlights:
On his losing streak: “My last two fights, they were out of the country – questionable losses – could have went either way. One of the underlining factors was I didn’t think I did enough; I didn’t throw enough. I wasn’t aggressive enough. That lost me the fight, so coming into this fight I wanted to prove to myself more than anybody that I can be aggressive, I can throw. I’m not just a wrestler. I didn’t want to shoot any shots. I just wanted to keep it standing.”
On his win over Tibau: “I definitely think I raised some eyes. I came out in that third round even more aggressive and really tried to set the pace, almost got the finish. Hopefully I opened up their eyes. Like I said, I don’t want to jump the line, but I’ve got some good fights under my belt. I’m aggressive. I just beat a world-class guy. Give me somebody in the top 20 and let me prove my stay.”
On getting recognition after this: “He’s got a name on him. I wanted somebody with a name. Fighting him gives me a grasp of where I am with the competition. A lot of people aren’t excited to fight him because he’s dangerous and because he can make a boring fight. I just wanted to bring the fight to him and just to myself – prove to everybody else – but prove to myself that I belong to be in that top tier of competition.”
