Dustin Poirier Wants a Top 10 Opponent Next

January 5, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Dustin Poirier spoke with MMAjunkie about his win at UFC 195 and more. Check out the highlights:

On who he wants to fight next: “Anybody in the top 10 I want to fight, and that’s about it. (Al) Iaquinta, (Beneil) Dariush, Michael Johnson – there are 10 guys to pick from, so any one of them. … I’d like to fight the guy closest to the top ranking.”

On making changes to his mindset: “I’m putting less pressure on myself. I’m having fun, but before I felt like I was overwhelmed by thinking about the fight and how my performance is going to be. I still do, but at the same time, I’m putting less thought and less care into it. I cover all my basis, I work my ass off and do the right things, and when I show up, what happens is going to happen. Taking that pressure off myself has allowed my to enjoy myself.”

On when he’ll fight next: “We’ll see the timeline. I’m trying to get in to see a specialist this week to see my nose. They have to do some work on that. However long that takes to heal, then I’ll be back in the gym. With a break like that, I can’t take any punches and even grappling is dangerous. So we’ll see the timetable after I talk to the doctor.”
