Evangelista Santos: “The More Violent The Fight, The Better It Is”
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Evangelista Santos (20-16 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) spoke about his Bellaor 153 fight with Brennan Ward (13-3 MMA, 8-3 BMMA). The happens tonight at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. It airs on Spike TV after preliminary fights on MMA Junkie. The fight will be Santos’ Bellator debut.
On returning to MMA in January: “I hadn’t fought for about two years at that point. It was important for me to come back so I could regain my fight rhythm. I saw that fight as an opportunity to get back in gear. I also felt it was a way to open new doors. That’s exactly what happened. Despite the fact that I didn’t win by knockout or submission, which is always my objective, I ended up dominating every round. That netted me an invitation to show my work in Bellator.”
On Ward being eleven years younger than Santos: “If you catch someone on the chin, age doesn’t matter. He’ll drop regardless. The challenge is to find the right shortcuts to make that happen. That’s what I work for.”
On how he likes his fights: “I go to war. I always aim to be aggressive and violent, regardless of who might opponent might be. The tougher my opponent, the more interested I am. I know that I get better in times in adversity. The more difficult the fight, the better I perform. Brennan Ward is tough. That only motivates me to give my best. The more violent our fight, the better. I hope he’s ready. I’m going to rain stones on him.”
