Ken Shamrock Says Bellator 149 Drug Test Fail Due to Pituitary Medication

Ken Shamrock says his failed drug test at Bellator 149 was due to medication for a pituitary condition. MMAjunkie has obtained a report from an investigator for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in which Shamrock said that he took several unspecified medications that he blamed for the positive drug test, which found an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone level.

“Respondent stated he is certain the results are not from an illegal substance and believes the results stem from medications prescribed to him from his doctor to control swollen pituitary glands in his brain,” the TDLR investigator’s report reads. It notes that Shamrock claims to have been checked out by doctors in two different states due to high testosterone readings “that concerned him to thinking it was cancer.” He said that testing ruled out cancer and that he was prescribed medications “to control the swollen pituitary glands that did, in fact, have a positive effect.”

Shamrock told the investigator that he and his medical team would respond to the positive drug test results. He faces a suspension of up to a year and a fine of up to $5,000. Shamrock’s attorney is asking for more time before deciding on whether to take a settlement that would revoke his license and have a reduced fine of $3,000. He has until April 29th.
