Megan Anderson Denies Fight With Cyborg in the Works for UFC 221 in February
As previously reported, UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg Justino claims she accepted a fight against Megan Anderson for a fight at UFC 221. However, Megan Anderson is claiming it’s not true.
At first, Anderson labeled the announcement by Cyborg as “fake news.” She later wrote an extended Instagram post on the subject, which you see below.
Anderson wrote the following: “I didn’t realise you can accept a fight that’s never been offered to you… Cris nor her team have been offered a fight against me at UFC Perth by the UFC despite the rumours. The UFC are looking to book this fight, but since the UFC Perth card is already completely booked, it will not be happening in 6 weeks. They can say whatever, can try make me look whatever they like, try and say someone else deserves this fight, but one thing is certain: this is the only fight that needs to happens and it will happen, soon…”
Anderson is a former Invicta FC featherweight champion. She hasn’t fought since January 2017. She was previously expected to face Cyborg at UFC 214, but she was forced to withdraw due to personal reasons. UFC 221 is slated for February 11 at the Perth Arena in Perth, Australia, which is Anderson’s native country. However, it seems unlikely right now that the fight will come together for that card based off of Andersons’ statements.
