Patrick Cote Is Getting His Call-Out Done Early For UFC Fight Night 89
Patrick Cote spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight wtih Donald Cerrone at UFC Fight Night 89. Some highlights are below:
On his call-outs being ignored: “I tried to call out the entire top-15 for a year-and-a-half, and I didn’t get any answers, so now I’m tired of doing that. So I’m going right on top now. I’m going to get past (Donald) Cerrone and going to call out the champ right now.”
On not worrying about other fighters: “I stopped worrying about the little details that I couldn’t control before. Now I control what I can, and that is myself. I don’t wake myself up every morning, doing all these sacrifices, just to be second. I do that because I want to be a world champion. I had a chance to become world champion at 185 pounds (against Anderson Silva, in 2008), I had back luck. I still think that I have the potential to have another title fight. Guys like (Dan) Henderson and (Michael) Bisping (current UFC middleweight champion) gave us hope, a guy like me.”
On being the bigger guy in the fight: “At this stage, I don’t think the weight is a big factor around the skills. If I think I’m going to win cause I’m a bigger guy, it’s a big mistake. He’s a well-rounded guy, and I have to bring better skills to beat him. For sure, I’m going to be a bigger guy. I’m going to use it. I’m going to be more powerful, but at the same time, I can’t control that. I’m going to be a bigger guy, that is it.”
