Tonya Evinger vs. Yana Kunitskaya Title Rematch Set for Invicta FC 22

January 15, 2017 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

During Invicta FC 21, Invicta officials announced a rematch (via MMAjunkie) between bantamweight champion Tonya Evinger and contender Yana Kunitskaya after their controversial finish to their last fight at Invicta FC 20 in November. The rematch will be held at Invicta FC 22, which is set for March.

In their first fight, Kunitskaya initially won the fight and bantamweight title due to submission. However, Evinger was able to successfully appeal her defeat to the Missouri Office of Athletics. She argued that when she placed her foot on her opponents face on the ground, it’s technically not a foul unless a strike is thrown. The referee forcing her to move her foot was ultimately what caused her to become vulnerable to a submission hold. As a result, her title loss was overturned, and that basically restored her status as champion.

Invicta FC 22 is set for March 25 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. The card will be streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.
