The largest movie theater chains in the country are all shutting down nationwide in an effort to fight the coronavirus pandemic that has consumed the country and the world.

AMC Theaters, the country’s largest chain of theaters, has announced that they will close all of their 630 locations starting today, and that the closures are expected to last 6-12 weeks.

Regal Theaters, the country’s second largest chain of theaters, has announced that it will be closing all locations today “until further notice.”

Landmark Theaters has also announced that they are shutting down all their locations by midnight tonight.

Alama Drafthouse also shut down all of its locations yesterday, posting this message on their website:

“Goodbye for now. But we’ll be back! When we reopen after this unprecedented and indefinite hiatus, it will be in a dramatically altered world, and in an industry that’s been shaken to its core. We’ll be in close contact over the coming days and weeks with our teams, suppliers, and colleagues on what these closures mean and what we plan to do next.”

All of these theater closings follow extremely slow business at the box office this past weekend as people started social distancing themselves in large numbers.
