Fans were concerned when they saw the Child’s Play trailer, thinking Chucky would be heavily CGI’d. Director Lars Klevberg says that’s not the case. Klevberg did written commentary for the trailer, which you can see below, in which he promises that “80% of Chucky in the movie is done with animatronics.”

In the commentary, Klevberg also says that he originally pitched the film as “E.T. on acid” and that there are several references to E.T. in the movie. He also lists Attack the Block, the original Let the Right One In and Gremlins among his reference films.

The film releases on June 21st and stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Brian Tyree Henry and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, it follows Karen (Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
