CinemaCon: Lionsgate Reveals New Animated Logo Teaser for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

During today’s Lionsgate studio showcase at CinemaCon 2025, Lionsgate announced details on the next installment of The Hunger Games franchise, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The upcoming film adapts the bestselling novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. It’s due out in theaters in November 2026. The studio also released the animated title treatment teaser for the upcoming feature, which you can view below.
Lionsgate revealed that Oscar-nominated screenwriter Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) is returning to the franchise for the upcoming feature. It will be directed by Francis Lawrence and produced by Color Force’s Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson. Cameron MacConomy will executive produce.
The prequel story follows a teenage Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson in the previous films) and his time in the 50th Hunger Games, also called the Second Quarter Quell. The teaser video reveals a fiery volcano, which was featured in the arena in Haymitch’s games. Additionally, the clip features audio of Harrelson’s Abernathy, who says, “I think these games are going to be different,” possibly teasing his return to the role.
The project is being overseen by Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien for Lionsgate. It will hit theaters worldwide on November 20, 2026.
