Danny McBride and John Goodman to Star in HBO Comedy Pilot

Danny McBride and John Goodman are set to star as a televangelist son and father in HBO’s latest comedy pilot. TV Line reports that the two will star in The Righteous Gemstones for the premium cable network.

According to the site, McBride will play Jesse Gemstone who is the eldest son and “heir to the throne” of Goodman’s patriach of a world-famous televangelist family. The family is described as having “a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work, all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” Eli is “known the world over for his aggressive salvation techniques, his worldwide ministries, and his award-winning weekly television program.” Jesse considers him a “maverick in the ministry game, taking what Eli has built and expanding it for a more modern audience.”

McBride will write and direct the pilot, and will executive produce along with Jody Hill and David Gordon Green.
