DC’s Sgt. Rock Movie No Longer Moving Forward, May Be Reassessed For Next Year

DC Studios’ Sgt. Rock movie is no longer moving forward with a planned shoot this year, according to a new report. As previously reported, Colin Farrell was in talks to star in the film, which would be directed by Luca Guadagnino. THR reports that the film will no longer move forward with plans to shoot the movie this summer in England, where preproduction had already begun.
While it is not yet clear why the movie was shut down, the outlet cites one insider as saying that the project’s scheduling needs around shooting outdoors was the main factor. The same source noted that the film is not going away completely and would be reassessed at the end of 2025 for a potential 2026 summer shoot.
The report notes that the World War II DC Comics-inspired action film was said to involve the titular Sgt. Rock teaming with a French Resistance fighter to find the Spear of Destiny before Nazis could get ahold of it. The Spear of Destiny is a mythical relic of Christianity, said to be the spear that pierced Jesus’ side during his crucifixion, and has appeared in DC Comics before, initially in 1977’s Weird War Tales #50. It also featured in the 2005 Keanu Reeves-starring adaptation of DC’s Constantine.
Sgt. Rock was in the midst of casting, with Mike Faist (Challengers) set for a role. The female French Resistance fighter role had also been set, though the name of the actor set was not said.
