Ethan Hunt Returns for One Last Mission in Teaser Trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

Ethan Hunt returns for one last mission in the newly retitled eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Paramount Pictures dropped the official teaser trailer and poster today for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The film will be arriving in theaters next year on May 23, 2025.

It looks like Paramount Pictures opted to tweak the title for the upcoming sequel, which was previously announced as Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two. Now, it’s been tweaked to The Final Reckoning. Notably, the trailer features star Tom Cruise wearing the same wardrobe as Ethan Hunt that he did performing the epic stunt for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony on August 11.

It looks like The Final Reckoning picks up where Dead Reckoning left off, with Hunt acquiring the cruciform key necessary to unlock the computer hub aboard the sunken Russian vessel, the Sevastopol, which is believed to contain the source code of The Entity. The Entity is a self-aware A.I. that gained autonomy after coming into contact with the Sevastopol and appears to have sinister intentions for the rest of the world. Hunt and his team at the IMF went rogue in order to shut down the Entity, fearing it could threaten the entire world and human race.

The sequel stars returning cast members Cruise as Ethan Hunt, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis/The White Widow, Esai Morales as Gabriel, Pom Klementieff as Paris, Henry Czerny Eugene Kittridge, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Charles Parnell as NRO, Frederick Schmidt as Zola, and Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas. Mission: Impossible – Fallout veteran Angela Bassett also returns in the role of CIA Director Erika Sloane for the film. New to the cast are Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, and Holt McCallany.

Christopher McQuarrie returns once again as director. He also produces the film along with Tom Cruise. It’s executive produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Chris Brock.
