Extraction Sequel Looking at Fall Production Start
Netflix’s sequel to their 2020 hit Extraction is looking to begin production this fall, according to the director. Sam Hargrave spoke with Collider for a new interview and confirmed that the film is looking to begin filming toward the end of the year, assuming that the pandemic allows.
“[That’s] still the case, COVID-pending,” he said. “That’s kind of everyone’s little caveat right now, but we’re moving forward on it as if we’re shooting in the fall. Joe [Russo] is still finalizing the script. We’re all excited to read it. I’ve read different iterations, but I’m excited to read what he turns in. We’re all looking forward to getting back in the saddle and hopefully bringing another action-packed adventure in the Extraction universe.”
The first film was a big driver of viewing hours for Netflix when it released in April, quickly ranking as their most-watched original film in history. It starred Chris Hemsworth, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, David Harbour, Derek Luke, Fay Masterson, and Golshifteh Farahani. It told the story of Tyler Rake (Hemsworth), a mercenary with nothing to lose who is hired to rescue the kidnapped son (Jaiswal) of a crime lord in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The mission becomes a quest to survive and keep the boy alive as they evade forces throughout the city.
