Iron Man, House Party & More Added To National Film Registry

The Library of Congress has announced the 25 films that are going in National Film Registry, which includes the first MCU movie. Iron Man joins fellow superhero movies The Dark Knight and Superman in the Registry. It’s also the first Marvel movie in general to make the list.

Other notable movies going in this year include the original version of Stephen King’s Carrie, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and comedy classics When Harry Met Sally and House Party.

The National Film Registry preserves up to 25 films each year that have are “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and showcase the range and diversity of American film heritage. With these additions, there are now 850 films in the registry. Movies must be at least 10 years old to be eligible and are chosen by Librarian of Conrgess Carla Hayden, with consultation from members of the National Film Preservation Board and other specialists.
