It looks as if there’s still plenty of life left on Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise, as a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel is reportedly in the works. THR reports that the production company is in talks with Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard to helm a planned sequel to his 2021 blockbuster.

The report notes that while this is not the confirmed direction Legendary will take, Son of Kong is one potential title being floated internally at Legendary. There is no official timetable in place at this time, but if Wingard does return he would be the first to do so in the MonsterVerse since it launched with Godzilla.

Godzilla vs. Kong has been a hit for Warner Bros. and Legendary, grossing $86.7 million domestically and $406.1 million worldwide so far on a $155 million budget. That’s a bigger gross than Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which cost $170 million and did also not have to contend with the pandemic or a day-and-date release on HBO Max.
