Coming Soon reports that the Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC debuted on September 4 on FX, getting the most-watched cable series premiere of 2018, with 6.8 million total viewers, which includes three encore runs and digital streaming. It’s the highest series premiere in the adults 18-49 demographic since January 2016. It also beat the original Sons of Anarcy premiere by 46%, and beat The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story as the most watched series premiere on FX.

Here’s a synopsis: “Mayans MC is the next chapter in the Sons of Anarchy saga, Kurt Sutter’s award-winning series that was the highest-rated ongoing drama series in FX history for seven seasons. The Mayans were recurring and pivotal players in Sons of Anarchy throughout the show’s seven-year run. The spinoff series is set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), fresh out of prison, is a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now EZ must carve out his new outlaw identity in a town where he once was the golden boy who had the American Dream within his grasp.

It stars Edward James Olmos, JD Pardo, Sarah Bolger, Clayton Cardenas, Richard Cabral, Michael Irby, Raoul Trujillo, Antonio Jaramillo and Carla Baratta. The pilot was directed by Noberto Barba, who will executive produce with Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. Fox 21 Television and FX Productions produce. The first season includes ten episodes.
