It looks as if the latest release date for the oft-delayed New Mutants might stick, with a trailer coming next week. Director Josh Boone took to Instagram to reveal that the trailer is set to arrive on January 6th, and that he personally supervised the trailer’s creation along with co-writer Knate Lee.

New Mutants is the first X-Men-set horror film, and it will end up being the last Marvel film released under the Fox banner. As appropriate to a horror film, it’s been seemingly cursed as it was pushed back again and again due to an inability to schedule the reshoots wanted in order to reportedly ramp up the horror aspects of the film. At various points it has been reported that the film could go straight to Hulu or Disney+, but the film is set to release on April 3rd, 2020 and has the chance to end the Fox iteration of the franchise on an upward note after the failure of Dark Phoenix.

Boone directed the film and co-wrote it with Lee. It stars Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa (Sunspot), Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar, Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin (Magik), Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie (Cannonball), and Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair (Wolfsbane).

The film reportedly takes its inspiration from the iconic “Demon Bear” storyline that was written by Chris Claremont and drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz, which sees the team targeted by a demonic manifestation connected to Dani that takes the form of a giant, monstrous bear.
