Nobody is one of the surprise hits of the year to date, and a sequel is officially in the writing phase. Director Ilya Naishuller spoke with JoBlo to promote the Bob Odenkirk-starring action-thriller’s home video release, and Naishuller confirmed that a script is being penned for a follow-up.

“There’s plenty of stories that can be told in this world, with the character Hutch,” Naishuller said. “I know that Derek (Kolstad) has begun work on the sequel.”

The film has been a strong performer since it debuted in March, with $52.2 million worldwide against a $16 million production budget, which is quite the hit considering it bowed when theaters were still in the process of re-opening. Naishuller did clarify that the sequel has yet to be greenlit by Universal, noting, “Whether it’ll happen, time will tell, but all the neccesary seeds have been planted.”

The film starred Odenkirk as Hutch Mansell, a seemingly mild-mannered ordinary guy with a family who, when someone tries to rob his house, is set upon a course that brings out a much more lethal side. Naishuller also hinted that Connie Nielsen, who played Hutch’s wife Becca, may get some action scenes next time. When interviewer Chris Bumbray said he’d like to see Nielsen get involved in the action, he said, “Well, I like the way you’re thinking Chris because you’re right on the money!”
