A new Silent Hill film is in the works from the director of the first adaptation of the horror video game franchise. It was announced during the special Silent Hill Transmission presentation on Wednesday that Christopher Gans, who directed 2006’s Silent Hill, is taking the helm for Return to Silent Hill.
The announcement video featured Konami assistant producer Rui Naito reveal that Victor Hadida, who produced the original films, reached out about a proposal for a new film. Naito called the new film “the catalyst for the revival of the Silent Hill games.”
Plot details are still under wraps for the new film, including whether it will follow the contunity of the original movie. The 2006 Silent Hill starrred Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, and Kim Coates and was financially successful, though poorly received by critics. It was followed by a sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation, which Gans did not return to direct and released in 2012.
The original film had the following synopsis:
Unable to accept the fact that her daughter is dying, Rose decides to take the girl to a faith healer. On the way, the pair drive through a portal in reality, leading to an eerie town called Silent Hill. The town is surrounded by a potent darkness, and the human survivors fight a losing battle against it.
