Ronald D. Moore’s reboot of Battlestar Galactica is one of the gold standards of TV reboots, and Moore is interested in seeing what Sam Esmail will do with his own reboot. Moore spoke with Variety and revealed that Esmail, best known for creating Mr. Robot, reached out to him after it was announced that he would be developing a new take on the franchise for NBC’s Peacock streaming service.

“Sam called me and was very gracious, he didn’t pitch me the story so I don’t know,” Moore said. “But he said his plans and he wasn’t going to re-start the show and recast it but he wanted to do something in the same universe. Sam’s amazing and I love Mr. Robot. I was like, you know, ‘You’re an amazing guy and amazing writer, go with god!’”

Esmail had previously confirmed that the series would “NOT be a remake of the amazing series [Moore] launched because… why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar.”

There’s no word on when the new series may launch. Peacock debuts on April 15th for Xfinity X1 and Flex customers, and nationally on July 15th.
