Shogun, The Bear, Baby Reindeer Win Big At 76th Annual Emmy Awards
The 76th annual Emmy Awards saw a few big winners on Sunday night in Shogun, The Bear, and Baby Reindeer. The three shows took home the won the most awards, with all three shows winning four awards.
The Bear won most of the comedy categories for the second year, winning Best Actor in a Comedy (Jeremy Allen White), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy (Liza Colón-Zayas) and Best Directing for a Comedy (Christopher Storer). However, it ended up being upset by Hacks for Best Comedy Series. Hacks also won Best Lead Actress In a Comedy for Jean Smart and Best Writing For a Comedy Series (Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky)
Meanwhile, Shogun took home Best Drama, Best Actor and Actress in a Drama (Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai), and Best Directing for a Drama (Frederick E. O. Toye). Finally, Baby Reindeer led the way for Limited or Anthology Series categories with the overall award, Best Actor (Richard Gadd), Best Writing (Gadd again), and Best Supporting Actress (Jessica Gunning).
There were a number of other big wins as well, as Jodie Foster won Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for True Detective: Night Country while The Traitors beat RuPaul’s Drag Race for Reality Competition Program. And The Daily Show and Last Week Tonight With John Oliver took home Best Talk Series while Last Week Tonight took home the win for Scripted Variety Series.
This marked the second Emmy ceremony this year; the 75th Annual Emmy Awards took place in January after being delayed due to the actor’s strike last fall. The 76th annual awards covered shows that aired from June 1st, 2023 until May 31st, 2024, meaning that (for example) the awards covered season two of The Bear and not the third season.
