Last August, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced the upcoming CG-animated adventure movie, Raya and the Last Dragon. Earlier today, Disney confirmed that the role of the film’s protagonist, Raya, has been recast. Originally, Cassie Steel was set to voice the role of Raya. The role will now be voiced by Kelly Marie Tran of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker fame.

Additionally, Disney released a new photo still from the film, which you can see below. The new image showcases the warrior Raya and her trust steed, Tuk Tuk. Kelly Marie Tran joins the cast opposite Awkwafina, who voices the role of the dragon, Sisu. Raya is a lone warrior who is on a quest to save her kingdom from a mysterious threat. Her quest leads her to find the last mythical dragon, after the others have gone extinct or been lost.

The film is being directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada, with Paul Briggs and John Ripa co-directing. Osnat Shurer and Peter Del Vecho are the producers, and Qui Nguyen and Adele Lim are writers on the upcoming project.

Raya and the Last Dragon is slated to open in theaters on March 12, 2021. Here’s an official synopsis:
