The Wire Star Wood Harris Will Not be Prosecuted Over Alleged Domestic Assault Claims
TMZ says actor Wood Harris (Avon Barksdale) on The Wire is not facing any criminal charges for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, who is also currently threatening further legal action. The incident allegedly happened last April in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The alleged victim is Anya Richardson, who was Harris’ girlfriend of two years. Richardson claims that Harris flew into a violent rage that put her in the hospital. Also, she says that Harris hit her multiple times in the stomach, neck, and ribs. It’s also been alleged by Richardson that Harris spat on her face and choked her.
Richardson claims that Harris had invited her to the city because he was in the process of filming Creed 2. The two were in his hotel room when the alleged unprovoked attack occurred.
Richardson states that after the altercation, she went to the hospital the next day and reported the incident to the police the day after her hospital visit. According to a representative for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office, the office could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt a crime had occurred. As a result, the office declined to prosecute.
Richardson’s attorney, Alberto Ebanks, told TMZ that Richards “feels there is little choice but to pursue alternative remedies to help protect other women from the threat of assault.”
A rep for Wood Harris responded to the story, stating, “The account by this woman is pure fabrication. Wood was never questioned by the authorities and that should speak to the authenticity of the accusation. No further comment.”
